JibbaTheHuttfor sure t'll be guys who started in x and then transitioned to big mountain side of things.
For anybody that doesn't follow Jacob Wester's blog;
https://www.freeride.se/jacobwester/
Jacob has been killing it skiing Cham over the last season, i reckon if he wasn't doing the filming thing we'd see him competing in FWT or atleast highly rated FWQ stops.
His blog is fucking dope aswell! Shouts to Jacob!
ozzywrongJacob told me last year at the B&e that he had no intention of ever competing in freeride comps cause he thought he had already proven himself in that element with filming. Which I think is limiting .. Jacob is def on of the top 5 all round skiers on earth no despute there. But I'm curious if any of be younger cats have the ability to kill it like him and Sammy.
1337Torin. Medaled a few times at x-games, has wicked sick style, has some of the biggest sponsors in the game, and is still super young.
ozzywrongCan Torrin ski big mountain ? I think hes one of the best park skiers in the world.. straight up amazing but I have never seen a back country or full film part from him other than park edits (which are straight fire) he could easily be the dude to take the torch if he wanted to but I have yet to see his BC jumping game or big mountain skills

*Nefarious*that's pretty hard to predict, because it comes down to a lot more than raw talent. You gotta have the passion running deep, and it seems a lot of skiers lose that, or lose the drive, as they get older.
In my opinion, Karl Fostvedt is making his way into that echelon. He does it all, and his backcountry game is strong, especially big jumps.
I'm predicting Dylan Sondrup will be doing big things for a long time to come. And Colby Stevenson. Those kids have "it"
thebusiness19I find it surprising that no one has mentioned Henrik Harlaut. He has three X Games golds and one silver and does not appear to be slowing down one bit. He has already done things in the backcountry that I haven't seen anyone else do...he did a dub 10 off of a cliff in Oil and Water. It seems his main inspiration is Tanner Hall so I don't see any reason why Henrik would not similarly transition to raping backcountry full time when he's done competing like Tanner did.
Brocka_FlockaI don't know for sure, but I assume he is. Coming from a mogul background and being a pipe skier, I assume he is actually a pretty decent skier. You have to have wicked edge control and forward pressure to ski a pipe.
Brocka_FlockaIn general though, I don't ever see another skier and the Sammy/Tanner/Candide level. In order to win X Games now, you have to dedicate 100% of your time to the park. Plus, all these new kids have grown up skiing nothing but park and having very little focus on basic skiing fundamentals (unless you ski pipe). Before, park skiing was a way out of racing and moguls and other establishments. So the OG dudes coming over like JP and Candide were able to bring solid skiing to the park. Now that the park is "established", 10 year-olds are more focused on the proper K-Fed set than parallel shins.

dylholeIm sure he can figure it out if he wants to, especially the jump side of things. In my opinion it's a lot harder to compete in pipe at a competitive level than it is to put out a video part. There's a reason why so many guys move to video segments in the latter part of their "careers." It's not a question as to if these guys can do it, it's if they have the desire to put in all the work to do it. After all, you get to ski a whole lot more if your season is devoted to contests instead of filming a segment, and you get the aid of a chairlift instead of a sled or touring or hiking.
I think plenty of contest/park skiers have the skillset to take to the mountains and backcountry if they choose to. You think someone like Gus or Henrik doesn't have the natural ability to learn how to ski AK or land in powder? I don't know enough about the ski industry these days to know who's who, but I'm confident there plenty of talent out there to become an all around stud if there's the will.

dan4060CR Johnson always said it was harder to make a great big mountain segment than it was to win an xgames medal. He said he was prouder of that than any of his xgames stuff.
Not all of the park guys have what it takes to just go to big mountain and dominate. Park skiing and big mountain skiing are very different, and one skill set does not necessarily translate 100% to the other. You can't just say that because someone is a great park skier they will dominate in big mountain. Also, Candide CR Tanner and most of those other guys ALWAYS skied big mountain, they just did not always get filmed doing it. It is very hard to get the chance to film in big mountain, there are not many spots in those helicopters, so the guys who get the chance are truly lucky. Someone who does not ski at least resort steeps their whole lives before trying to film will not be able to dominate big mountains, you don't just step out of the park and step into the big mountain arena and dominate things.
Most of the park guys who eventually dominate in big mountain also have backgrounds in racing or bumps. Those disciplines translate very well to AK type skiing.
John_BrownColby Stevenson
SconnieDoes he even ski backcountry?
s.oksenMitchell Brower?
ben_collinsHes been pretty much on top for a while now lol
AndrewGravesSVI feel like Dane Tudor deserves a mention although he's dropped out of the park scene. Dude landed a backcountry triple and used to just crush park. Now he's killing big mountain lines and has been since edias
ozzywrongDan is one of the top 5 skiers on planet earth.. so underrated same as Tanner Rainville but I want to know up and comers who can take the mantle ..
