Elan skis

anyone know anything about them? worth the buy? What about Amplid?

Elan is one of the largest volume ski producers in the world. Not only do they make a ton of skis for themselves, but tey press a lot of skis and snowboards for smaller companies as well.
Their quality control and factory finishing is some of the best in the business.
They don't get a ton of love here because the majority of their product is race/groomer related.
I've been skiing on Elan skis for years. I love them. Their Boomerang is the best powder ski on hardpack I've ever been on. I didn't realize how good it was until I sold them and started skiing other skis. It was so good, that I bought two pairs of them.

Carving = good
All Mountain = decent
Powder = sub par
Park & Pipe = probably your worst option

New Ripstick 96 and 106 are sick. Skis a lot like a Sick Day with a little more grip on harder snow.

The puzzle tbt's are amazing. Do you have any personal experience with these skis, or are you just going by stereotypes?

I was kinda wondering the same thing. The Boomerang is a super underrated ski.

When they changed it from a 140/120/130 skis to a 140/120/140 symmetrical TBT ski, they lost a lot of fans. But they've gone back to the 140/120/130 ski, and done away with the TBT tips and tails.

They ski like a floatier 4frnt EHP.

Yeah of course, but it's not like a go to feature when looking for a powder ski, I usually focus on how well it skis in... Powder

It was just a really weird thing to comment on in a review, and weirder yet he didn't talk about how they actually skied in powder

Ah that makes sense. I took it more as "they're so good they even hold up on hardpack" but I see the confusion about not having an actual powder review of them.

I haven't seen a rockered 120mm ski that doesn't ski pow well, but a lot of power skis don't do so well on the way back to the lift. Hence my comment about it's hard snow ability.

But, yeah. It rips in the pow. Floats, smears, and straight lines, doesn't get knocked around in cut up snow or have flappy tips.

Does anyone know how thick the edges are on the Puzzle TBT?

Also for OP Amplid skis are good, I've only owned the Amplid Provokes and for how much I paid for them (like $170 or something) they were great. Held up for a solid year before the edges cracked and pulled out, the top sheet is also prone to chipping I found because where the sidewall meets the top sheet it is not rounded.
I would only buy the Provokes if you're very tight on money or you just want a thrash ski, primarily because of the extruded base (too slow for my liking especially on big jumps).

The other higher end more expensive skis from Amplid with sintered bases look really good though and I'd happily buy a pair.
