Who the fuck actually likes boxes?

Aside from beginners that is. Im talking boxes wider than half a foot. Who the fuck slides a box and thinks to themselves afterwards "Gee what a quality feature". You know what's better than the best box? Any rail. Boxes suck and mountains that overuse them (cough cough Bristol) should feel bad.

Mr.BishopI mean that is a pretty important part of terrain parks, no? When there's nothing for beginners nobody can learn to enjoy the park.

I realized the importance of boxes when my 5 year old was wanting to go through the park this winter. Without those super shitty boxes, he wouldn't have even been able to come close to trying out a park feature.

You basically nulled your entire argument in the first three words.
You don't hear pros saying "I have more fun on 50 foot tables so the park should invest all their money on a line of 50 footers, fuck all the smaller jumps" because it's obvious that less skilled riders deserve park features as much as anyone else. There are more beginners than people who can confidently shred rails, so resorts build lots of boxes.
I suggest you embrace that you're part of an elite minority in the park and quit bitching.


I also can't help but read every post in this thread as an innuendo and it makes it real funny.

You learned how to ski park before boxes were a real part of the terrain park, no? I miss the good ol' days when everything was super sketchy and mostly unsafe. The few days I ski park nowadays all i want to do is hit big jumps. I think I'm about the only person at PC that misses those dangerous, painful, massive stepdowns that put you 30 feet in the air right off the lip.

As twisted as it sounds I wish that one mountain would have just one park straight out of the ratchet park era. No rails less than 6 feet tall are allowed. Transitions of all types must be abrasive. It would be fun so see if people could adapt.

Back from my boarding days have a pair of Rome gloves theres a beaver on it giving a thumbs up in between two chicks legs with black leather boots on with the words "nosepress the fun box" pretty funny gloves actually.

I miss absolutely zero about those days.

I got into building parks for a while so I really started to realize how lazy it was to have things that dangerous. I mean sure it was cool when everything was fresh and new and raw... But In no way do I ever miss shitty parkS. :)

Im with u. I can slide 40 foot tubes, DFD rails, Flat Downs, Battle Ships, Steep Cannons, 2 on 2 off toothpick rails, but EVERY TIME i get on a box i have a near death experience. Both of my thumbs got broken on a butter box like wtf...

Anything over 12" wide outside of a beginner/progression park is dumb. I'm down for some wide box combo features but just setting up a wide box in a medium or large park just for the sake of having a feature there is stupid. They invite lower level riders into territory they may not belong in yet.

Beside that fact, I think there's a huge correlation between the way we have to 'grip' the coping on wider boxes, and MCL injuries specifically.

My mountain has like no boxes in their park. All rails and tubes. If you really need a feature for learning, find one of those fat propane tank tubes. Easiest way to learn all 8 by far (for me at least).
