Dear Newschoolers,
my name is Ben Lauer.

Today I am making this thread (not under the influence of drugs) as a stamp on the world of freestyle skiing. I have decided to dedicate every ounce of energy in my body to become a professional freestyle skier. I am motivated and dedicated to this goal, and will do whatever it takes to get there. I did not decide this over night, but I know deep down that I must pursue this goal of mine with everything I have..EVERYTHING. I am making this thread because I want to share my excitement. It will be a long long difficult road, but I know exactly that this is what I am going to do with my life. Between life and death, skiing is more important to me than anything else in this world. I am making this thread just because I am fully dedicated to this goal of mine. I have been through a lot of shit and in the end, this is what I was created to do. Call me a crazy 20 year old, but I am 110 percent sure I can do this!

Pros are beginners in the eyes of the lord... potential homies slain by the desire for free outerwear and the greed that comes with fame. The so-called professional "dies" when they receive their first sponsor... we just don't bury them until old age. May thine rest in piece.

definitely hit up some camps this summer, get a backyard setup and a trampoline and work your ass off all summer so you can ski all winter

Trying to be pro skier sounds like it would cut into your time skiing. All your time traveling to comps, trying to learn body destroying tricks on jumps larger than 4 story buildings, dealing with injury and mental stress.
I say buy a van and follow pow. That's just my opinion.

Wheeeeeeeeeew just spoke to my parents and looks like they aren't questioning my sanity after all........Whole hearted I go on this quest with 110 percent energy and awareness of pain and failure. I have support from my parents meaning I'm getting expenses to pay for anything car related(Toyota Land Cruiser 2003). Besides that I'm on my own. Many have done it before with far less.

I understand. My mind works with knowing that there is nothing in this universe that I would like to exert my energy on except for skiing.

What drives me is the pure passion I have had with this sport since I was born. I am not someone who is greedy and power hungry and I will not butcher my sport. I am fueled by the acceptance of who I am and where I need to be.

He's been skiing for a long time he knows what the point of skiing is. He's realized he needs a lot of work to do and he has come to terms that he really needs to focus and buckle up if he wants to make it big. Chill

For the most part, the people that become pro's don't make these threads(anymore, maybe back in like the 01-06 years) because they're out shredding. However; best of luck op and best of luck when you apply for superunknown 2019

Some people ski because they love skiing. Some people ski because they want to be a skier. Can't say if one is right or wrong but " focusing and buckling up to make it big" definitely is never gonna be on my agenda. I never want to have to do anything to be a skier that I don't already want to do with skiing.

The outcome of that is no different than it is for many young comp skiers. What happens when you don't make it? Do you quit skiing or do you quit trying to be a skier?

@OP You should to try to assess what you really want to achieve and why.

My intention was never to start a shit storm, which I am afraid I created and I sure as hell should not have used the word "professional" I should have explained my intentions and clearly explained how I arrived at this conclusion. Oh well, all I know is that I'm going to try and do my best. I'm consistently surrounded in NM where I feel like an outcast where no one even knows that freestyle skiing exists. I'm simply sharing the excitement and commitment I have for something I love more than anything else, and the ability to make that happen.

And some people want to be a skier because they love skiing. Just because someone tries really hard wanting to be pro doesn't mean they love skiing any less than the skier that loves skiing, coming from a skier who's in it 100% for the love
