Oversize Luggage and Connecting Flights Charges?

You should only have to pay once. At least when I flew United And have a connecting flight I only had to pay once.

Anyway, if you are traveling abroad, they may charge you if you have to go through customs again, if not, your baggage is going directly to your destination so you should have to pay only once.

Yeah, there is usually a charge but not too bad for a lot of airlines. Something like $150 or less each way is alright.

Emirates tried to charge me $650!!!!!!! to go from Auckland to Sydney! I could have bough my board a passport, a plane ticket and gotten it a comp meal and beer for half the price. I shipped it dhl instead.

I was thinking of trying to do a day layover on the way to break it up, eat some food have some beers, but with the board bag I probably wont because I sure as fuck don't want to have to grab that to bring from the airport and go through customs, then back through security etc.

I hate dragging that shit around.

As long as they're not booked booked as separate flights ie you didn't book one flight and pay and then book another and pay you'll be fine

Assuming you booked one ticket with connecting flights your bag tags will always say your end destination with all applicable connections above it.

Now whether you have to pick up your bags at each connecting airport and recheck them depends totally on where you are connecting through and whether you're switching from domestic to international or not. Make sure you ask that when you check in and write down what they say because it's hard to remember after 10 Hours of screaming children

I think that's how it worked the last time I had a connecting flight in the US. I flew united across the states and then air NZ to NZ.

I just want to figure out what fees to look up. Obviously on a long flight the fees are everything.

For instance emirates would probably charge like 1,000 for my bag to go one way, which even if they had the cheapest flight would be a fucking horrible deal.

If you book your trip with one airline, you'll pay when you check in and that's it. The connecting flights will be operated in conjunction with the airline with which you booked so you don't have to worry. Most larger airlines are about $75-100 for a ski bag, but some European ones charge out the ass for extras once you get your cheap ticket.

Went with Air France because of price and them allegedly having free ski bag action. I fucking hate traveling with a ton of gear though.

Fun fact, for aircraft weight and balance purposes if your bag weighs more than 50 lbs but less than 100 lbs, it's classified as a "heavy" bag and weighs 60 lbs for performance calculations
