Do humans have souls?

The title is self explanatory. Please vote in the poll and take the time to speak your thoughts in a reply. If humans DO have souls, why do you believe that? If humans DON'T have souls, why do you believe that?

Whatever your thoughts are, I will be interested to hear them. Whether it's coming from an ultra atheist perspective or extremely Christian worldview. I want to know.

I'm an atheist. I don't believe in God.

The one belief I do have is that before we were born, we were nothing. We did not exist. When we die we will become nothing, and cease to exist.(consciously)

It's a cycle of nothingness that will always continue.

He said it was a belief, so he's not claiming to know. Not sure it's fair to call that a cop out.

Brains and genes are pretty weird and I think eventually we'll dig deep enough to understand how our pieces fit together and how our mind computers work. And there won't be a little wisp of soul inside, just neurons and chemistry.

I have had the privilege of an extreme psychedelic experience that brought me to the point in which I was able to recognize my soul as well as the souls of all that ever has been and will be. All we are is interconnected energy once we strip away our sense of self, and time. I don't care if nobody believes me or if they say I was just tripping... I know what I experienced and I have no qualms with what will happen when I pass. All our souls are one and the same one must just experience it from an outside perspective.


you're not crazy, I have had multiple experiences similar to that as well

So what you have proven is that if you mess with the brain, you will get incredibly weird experiences based on your own subconscious and personal character. I don't doubt for a second that you had an experience like this. But you can't say with absolute certainty that what you experienced is a real experience of the afterlife. With these same drugs, we can make people truly and 100% believe that they can fly (or are flying when strapped to a table). The brain is an incredibly complex and powerful object. To claim to know that what you experienced is truly the afterlife is more than premature.

I fully understand that and accept it, and yet if you have not had an experience like that I don't expect you to understand. One thing that made it so powerful is that I ingested the substance with no knowledge of it (thought it was THC) and never having tripped before with no preconceptions at to what I should be experiencing. I fully convinced my brain that I was dead and that is a big part as to why I believe what I believe. Also, the number of people who have ingested various psychedelics of different chemical makeup and had very similar experiences further leads me to believe there is some truth to it.

I totally grant the possibility of this being a real thing, that you could have had an experience of the afterlife. But I think we need to examine all of the variables as objectively as possible. Just because other people have had similar experiences with similar substances only proves that they have a similar brain composition to you. It would make sense that other humans have similar experiences when under the influence of such substances since our brains are all basically the same.

I also think we need to ask ourselves this question: what is more likely- that the laws of nature have been temporarily suspended in your favor, or that this drug has caused your brain to produce an incredibly realistic yet imagined experience?

Was the substance in question dmt? Dmt rocked my world, I have been very confused about these sorts of things since I first blasted off many years ago.It felt realer than real.

I ingested an 80mg 4-ACO-DMT capsule thinking it was an activated hash capsule. Basically the acetoxy molecule makes the DMT edible and extend the trip from 15 minutes to about 6-7 hours. Was fully out of reality for about 5 of those hours, unresponsive to the world around me (to me felt like an eternity... Hence why I was discussing the loss of the sense of time and self) honestly undescribable. Has had a significant impact on my life.
