I'm getting a tattoo in a few weeks, designed by none other than Cy Whitling himself. We are tweaking a few small things. I think I want to do color, but I can't decide.

tattoo looks pretty nice actually. I'd keep it simple, black and white. Color becomes a big hassle because getting the right shades you want be a pain in the ass. Also i feel like if you want a colored tattoo it has to be big/surrounded by other color, so it doesn't just look like a dab of color out of place. just for curiosity where are you planning on tattooing this and how big?

You'll need to be careful about the lines. They seem to be pretty close and you'd have to make sure they're space enough that they don't bleed into each other. My friend had this really cool design but ended up being told it wouldn't be possible based on the location she wanted and how close the lines have been to each other!

Where are you getting it? It must be pretty big to keep it clean..? Like mingg said the lines are close together and you don't want them to bleed. Personally, I'd keep it black and white as an outline just like that drawing. You don't want the color/shading to fuck it up

if it were more simple Id say do color, but havin a tattoo artist do an artists rendition can be risky because even if your artist colors it on paper, it prob wont be as magical as he makes it when it finals transfers to skin by the tattoer. even if you do go color, let it be a standing color tattoo, don't add color to the outside of the wolf as a backdrop. personally I think it would look tacky with a tatt that's as detailed as this one. however it can look good on other kinds of tatts like flowers and faces and shit.

obvi your choice. I vote black and white.

I don't do color at all. I'm not sure if it's just a phase thus far in my life or what. It's not that I don't like color tattoos, I just don't want them on my body. A couple of my buddies have amazing color tattoos, full sleeves or back pieces and they look phenomenal but I'm just not into it for mine. My artist does some amazing color work, he has more of a water color style but that's not my thing either.

I will continue to get tattoos and develop the ones I have (they are very basic and I like them that way for now) because I'm not sure where I want them to go but I think the best way to end up with something I truly love is to find something I know I want, get it, figure it out later. The only stipulation to that is the ones I get I'm fine with keeping as is now. It's on me all the time and I can figure out what I want next. Long drawn out way of explaining that.


I like the wolf. Go with what ya feel man.
Guesstimating that half the haters in this thread need a parents signature to get a tattoo.
My first one was the ass tatt.

Thanks guys! I'll definitely post a picture when it's done. I spoke with my artist, he's feeling color on it so it's not just a black mess but he said either will work. So he's going to draw it up in color and we'll see what I think from that.
