HoodlivingBut in all seriousness. 1080 60 is going to not be in your price range, unless you just buy a gh4 body and then get a adapter and then a lens you're already out of budget. 1080 60 on the canon 80d is available now, but you really DO NOT need 60fps in 1080. Get yourself a cheap t3i for around 300 and a cheap tokina 11-16 or canon 10-18 and you'll be around 750 total. 60fps is used primarily for slow motion. And shooting in 60fps consistently if you don't understand shutter speed relation to motion blur your videos will come out wonky. 720 60 is the way to go then you put your 1080 footage into a 720 comp and down scale it to save quality. There's alot of research you need to do before diving in. Its 100% different than filming with a gopro
nutz. There's a lot of research you need to do before giving him bad advice man.
how the hell is 720 60p from a canon going to be cleaner/better quality. I'm also willing to bet the 80d's 1080p isn't as clean

Hoodlivinghey bud, not knowing the price of a camera I dont use doesn't mean its bad advice. Also I didn't say it would be superior than a gh3s 1080 60. I'm saying it'll be an easier camera for him to learn with and starting out you dont need 1080 60. And of course frame rate and shutter correlation if its off youre going to have shit footage. I'm assuming you know that to get natural motion blur from 1080 60 you need to shoot at 60shutter, everyone still cranks it and makes it look like ass. I just prefer the film look to a jittery mess. Rarely anyone uses 60fps well
eheathYou post terrible advice my dude, stop letting your 'opinion' cloud the judgment of a beginner.my dude, all of these are opinions other than gh3 has better 1080 60. Everything else here is in the eye of the beholder. Sure crank the shutter speed also get a staccato mess of a video, but some people like that look. I personally have shot photos on a gh3 and hated that camera. Its great for video, but as an all around dslr I would still recommend a t3i over a gh3. Maybe you guys just take primarily video but I am 50/50 so I prefer to have a nice photo as well. I wont disagree that canons h.264 is shit, literally if you do a blind shoot out between a t3i, 7d and 70d 9/10 you can't tell the difference between noise and clarity of the footage due to them using the same sensors. I find that funny considering the cameras can jump a grand in price easy for just a couple extra bells and whistles. Canon relies on people being entirely uninformed to sell a majority of their cameras, one day Ill get one of their cine cams or I would want to try the black magics out. Have you had a chance to scope those out at all??
There is nothing wrong with shooting a higher shutter than 1/125 at 60p, period.
A gh3 is a great beginner camera, its just as easy to learn how to use as a t3i, and its 100 times better. Canon dslr footage is garbage compared to a gh3, 720p is done, everyone has a 1080p screen now, it's time to move on from canons shit video dslrs.

nutz.what? for it to look "natural" you need to use 60 as your shutter speed? That's super wrong.....yah for the most part to get a cinematic motion blur its best to shoot 1/60 in 60fps 120 for faster movements. What's the problem is people will not look into their filming so much and just assume they can shoot wide open and use a 1200shutter or some ridiculous amount. I find that an acceptable limit is 160 in 30fps. Without getting too much staccato and jittery motion. The problem with it when you're shooting 60fps without ND filters trying to be wide open you get really wonky footage when you're above 120-240. Yes you can stop down but sometimes you don't want to be focused throughout the frame. If you understand shutter aperture and fps correlations you can definitely get great footage. I just find it overkill to film in only 1080 60. Would I like 1080 60 in my canon for slomo fuck yah that way I dont have to downscale all my 1080 footage. What I'm sort of getting at is that a beginner to dslr's may not produce as quality of video say you or eheath would and they will get discouraged. You'd be surprised how many people dont try and learn about their camera and just treat it like a instafix over a gopro.
And rarely anyone uses 60fps? Loads of people use 60fps... Helps with slowmo a lot. There's a reason cameras come with 120fps and above as well. No offense, but after reading your posts I'm willing to bet if I showed you two videos with different shutter speeds you wouldn't be able to tell the difference.
pops. When I was buying my first camera I was between a GH3 and 60D. I was skeptical about buying the GH3 becuase panosonic wasnt as big as name as camera. I ended up getting the 60d, it gets the job done but I SERIOUSLY REGRET not buying the GH3. Theres a reason why everyone recomends it, get a GH3.60d is a joke of a camera.
Hoodliving60d is a joke of a camera.

eheathBut the t3i isn't? I don't understand what you're trying to prove.
The 80d is over $1000 and shoots upscaled 1080p and you still think the gh3 for $500 isn't as good as a t3i?
nutz.your 1080 in your canon is still upscaled. btw it's 24p at 60fps not 60p at 60fps lol... I don't think you really know what you're talking about.
And what's your point, he should buy a camera that's worse because he's a beginner even though the better camera is the same price? That's a joke right??
Hoodlivingy'all are both missing the point and just being jaded about canon. He asked what beginner camera to get I said t3i due to it being an easier camera to learn video AND photos. I would never get a gh for the image quality. Just the video quality. So yes 7/10 I would recommend a canon entry level over a Panasonic. Where did I say that my 60fps wasn't 24p?
I totally forgot that you guys are total masters of dslrs in the NS realm of pigeon holes, must mean that your opinions are only right, got it.
nutz.you said 1080 60p at 60fps is how you get "cinematic motion blur" lol. It's not the fact that you're recommending canon, it's the fact that he said he'd like 1080 60fps and you completely ignore that. Sure the photo side maybe the rebel is a bit better, but I mean technically the GH3 has better dynamic range than the t3i so there's that, albeit the sensor on the t3i is a little bigger/has 1 more megapixel and canon does render skintones nicer for sure in the photo department."yah for the most part to get a cinematic motion blur its best to shoot 1/60 in 60fps 120 for faster movements" huh? Pretty sure I didn't mean 60p at 60fps lol. The gh3 does have a better dynamic range without pushing it too much, but I have found the signal to noise ratio provides a little bit cleaner of a color grade than the gh3/4 but like you said that's probably due to the warmer tones of canons. I personally found that a lens will do alot more for your footage quality than cameras. For the most part dslrs are pick your poison and as we can see here we all have a different taste for it.
and it's not that I'm a master with a dslr, I just think your advice is awful

eheathUpscaled 1080p on a canon will not look as good as 1080p on a gh3.interesting maybe I will grab a couple cheap teles off Cl and see how they do.
honestly, lenses for 1080p aren't as big of a deal, i used a nikon 70-210 f4 from like the 1960s that was $50 and its just as sharp as a canon 70-200.
nutz.lol, you said 1/60 60fps 120. 1/60 or 120, pick one. Don't just throw terms out there so it looks like you know what you're talking about.

GH3 bodies are $550 BRAND NEW from B&H photo/video and around 400-500 used. It has much cleaner 1080p than any canon around. if you don't understand shutter speed relation to motion blur your videos will be wonky no matter if you shoot 60p or 24p or 30p or 120p.....
how the hell is 720 60p from a canon going to be cleaner/better quality than 1080 60p from a gh3? It's a $100 price difference if buying used with a huge increase in quality. I'm also willing to bet the 80d's 1080p isn't as clean as the GH3's.
OP Get a GH3
SimsybWhat lens would you recommend on the GH3. Preferably a wide angle that is affordable ($500 or below!)
Thanks man!
