Best mountains out west?

Next year for February break Im going out west with the family. I don't know what mountain were going to yet but I love skiing park. I got park city and snowbird in mind but where else should we go to?

You're going out west man, I'd look at bigger mountains with good terrain. But if you're set on skiing park and all mtn, go to mammoth

We thought about mammoth but it was a haul from the airport and various mountains to go to. In the pc area there alot of mountains to go to. What is the best mountain to go to in the pc area

I know you want park, but I would consider Snowbird and Alta. They don't have great parks, but for steeps and snow they are unbelievable. I know you want park but I would consider going somewhere with big mountain terrain. You can ski park anytime, you should take advantage of being out west and go somewhere with steeps.

I ski Mammoth 3 weekends a month and it would fit your criteria, steeps and park, but I understand the distance to the airport issue. You can fly into Mammoth but it is pretty sketchy so I would not want to do it. Park City is cool, but the terrain is not as good as Snowbird or Alta. If you are going to rent a car you could stay in the Park City area and hit both PC and Alta/Bird. I know you want park but you really should consider taking advantage of terrain you can't get at home. Like I said, you can ski park anytime you want.

This for sure. Besides there's a bunch of natural hits at Alta/bird so you'll get your jumps in. No rails really, maybe a few at the bird I'm not sure, but yeah take advantage of the terrain man. You won't regret it.

You are going from Massachusetts to the Rockies to ski something you could ski in Massachusetts? I'd recommend looking for places based on terrain. And for that I'd say Jackson,Telluride(If the snow is good like this year), Alta, ect...

utah is the place alta/snowbird on the pow days and then theres brighton pc and snow basin for park .

Oh yeah bfish has a point. Brighton is pretty good cause they have some sick terrain and a good park.

Big sky is amazing and has little to no lift lines. Timberline is fun but mainly for their park, and whitefish is pretty sweet too but it gets foggy a lot.

alta is skier only. snowbird is not

beyond that you dont have much to worry about. the only other two mountains i can think of that are skier only are mad river glen and.... taos, new mexico? i forget


also i second snowbird/PC area so you can do it all, and it's easy access compared to a lot of places

i also love tahoe-- squaw and alpine are two of the best mtns in the country, easily-- but they have had an inconsistent record with snow the past 5 years. 2011 was insane, then every winter until this one was bad. hopefully next year is dope for them but who knows. but flying into reno and hitting up tahoe is a simple great way to get some world class skiing

I can't comprehend why people who go west for vacation pick mountains based on park unless you SUCK at skiing outside of the park.

Anyways for me easily hands down in order would be

Squaw/Alpine
Whistler
Jackson Hole
Telluride
Crested Butte

Tahoe is pretty dope if the season is good.

Northstar has a dope park.
Heavenly is in South Lake in town
Kirkwood has some really fun terrain

Go to Brighton, if you want to ski park and a good mountain its the best thats close to the airport. There are people who are Alta/Snowbird people and would never recommend Brighton, I would though, place is so legit.

Copper has incredible parks and then they also have some pretty great terrain at the top of each of the peaks and the backside as well.

Mammoth has great terrain and a great park. The winds can be both good and bad. Good because they smooth up snow and make classic windbuff, sometimes weeks after a storm. Bad because the winds can shut the top down for a while and turn the pow up top into windbuff. Many times I have had great storm days on the lower mountain then seen the top open and had windbuff up there not powder. Don't get me wrong, the windbuff is fun but it is nice to get pow up top. When the upper mountain is pow that is a treat, but sometimes the wind can thicken things up. I am a Mammoth weekender and I love it, but I did my ski bum years at Squaw and I would pick Squaw if I had the choice.
