2009 tacoma with 25,000 miles for $23,500 a good deal?

Been looking at a slightly used tacoma for when I move west. Obviously want to keep the miles down. Is there any advantage buying one in a newer year? Seems like most of the tacoma's going aorund my area are 2009-2012 with 25-32000 miles on it for right about 24000. Getting really close to pulling the trigger.

Trying to get one that isn't the complete base model I want to chrome bumpers and upgraded wheels.

Is this a good deal for a double cab with 4x4? Any other suggestions where people look for used cars besides auto trader, cars.com, etc.?

I don't know a ton about cars but 25,000 for $23,000 is a good deal I'd say

But again, I'm 16 and I don't know much so...

That seems a bit pricey to me. A truck like that in excellent condition with no extra features will go for about 17k at the most.

Not sure if this helps, but I got a 2015 tacoma with 19k for about $29,000. Honestly I would say what you're looking at is pretty close, maybe just a tad high but they do hold their value remarkably well

Lol tacomas are hilariously expensive, you can get a good Cummins for that.

In 2007, I bought a 2004 Tacoma with 50,000m for about $21k. It's definitely the object that I miss the most now that I live in Europe. If the one you are eyeing is in good condition, I would pull the trigger. You'll dig it for sure.

Good to know. Reliability is a big draw for me to the tacoma. I also have zero reason to have a full size truck and don't want a diesel since I have no idea how those engines work.

I HATE the look of the new colorado and the frontier is so far behind the tacoma. Was looking at a couple SUV's also thought about an Xterra with similar mileage and pretty new like 2013 or so but just seems like a horrendous driver besides for off road use

Obviously test drive it first, but check to see if the frame looks good.

If it does, hell ya, do it. I've seen 2nd Gens with under 15k miles selling for $28,000 around me. New was $35,000 all said and done for me.

Fair enough. I definitely understand the draw to Tacomas, just hard to justify paying for one.
Colorado's are shit. I really hope Ford brings the Ranger back with a 4 door version to compete with the Tacoma. My FX4 Lvl 2 has been unreal for me, so much fun.

Hesitant to pull the trigger just cause i know im paying a lot for the name as well as the perceived reliability.

Could get basically a brand new Xterra for the same price. Except giving up the convenience of the bed. Got the sales guy on hold today so I can let this one slide im sure more will pop on the market the next 3-4 months till I move.

Was checking out some F150 with the eco boost engine as well same year / slightly newer with a little bit better mileage on them but supposedly the eco boost gets horrible mpg's

Oh I didnt read carefully enough. Yeah I mean they really didnt change much in them until this last year when the body style changed and they put a different engine in.

No. You can get a trd sport that is double cab long bed but its auto, or get a trd offroad double cab short bed manual. Kinda lame

do you need a truck that big?

if not look at the first generation tacomas. not as powerful but smaller and lighter. you can fit a sled in the back of most of them. the 3.4 v6 in it is insanely reliable. same goes for the 4cyl option but its pretty gutless. they are getting a bit older now, so it can take some searching to find a good one. i'm currently with out a vehicle but when i do get one it will be a first gen.

My work truck is a diesel f350, and yeah grew you can probly tow a trackho with it, but it also gets like 8mpg around town, is like 40 feet long and fits in no parking spots, and is like twice as much money as a Tacoma. They aren't meant to be competitors.

tacoma is a good truck for anyone that is 5'8'' or shorter, i had one for like a month couldnt stand how small it was.

I always browse around for those since I like the smaller profile. Definitely hard to find them without like 200k miles and a rotted frame but there're a few gems out there

Ended up passing on the deal. Considering spending a little bit more now and getting a 2013-2015 model with less mileage on it.

But for me def gunna end up with a tacoma and a long bed if I can find one.

Honestly, I wouldn't even think twice about buying a toyota pickup with 200,000 on it they run forever.
Look on craigslist for other deals
My neighbor paid over 25k for his 2011 tacoma with the same specs

So i have a 2009 tacoma, i have put 170K, since i got it. The first thing you need to check is the frame and left springs. They recalled a lot of there trucks because of rust and the breaking down of there really cheap steel (if it needs replaced, don't get it because they will make you cover most the cost yourself and you won't have a truck for a few months). Other than that be prepared to pay a pretty high price because they hold there value very well, which will benefit you in the long run.

Is the tacoma a v6? If yes, they get around the same MPG as a full-size truck and don't have a normal size bed that you can actually fit stuff into. I was looking at them for a while until I realized they get the same fuel milage as my F150 5.4.

Diesel engines are actually simpler than gasoline and if you want to figure it out, google it haha. When you start adding in turbos and emissions systems they get a little more complicated.

Yes the 5.0 actually gets better mileage and has less shit to fail if you plan on driving it into the ground (i.e. not twin turboed and all the crap that comes along with it).

Whats the deal with the ecoboost engines? Any good? Have driven an expedition with one and was pretty surprised how peppy that thing was. Also got 16.5 mpg's drving around town which was pretty solid prob could get 18 or so on the highway

My dad has an explorer with the ecoboost and that thing is fun to drive. Surprisingly fast

Most Taco's are v6s, some are 4-cyls. 4-cyls are much cheaper than v6s, but obviously lack any sort of power and IMO, should be the last vehicle you look at for mountainous regions.

IMO, Kravtz, since you're looking for a double cab long bed Tacoma, look at full sized trucks as well. They are almost identical in size, have more powerful engines, nicer interiors (for cheaper), and get almost identical MPGs. Sure, they may not hold the value for as long as a Tacoma, but they're still good vehicles and frankly much more "luxurious" in comparison.

For me, the whole reason I got a Tacoma was that I wanted a truck bed, but did not need the long bed or a full sized truck for the suburbs of MA and the occasional Boston trip.

From what I heard, the ecoboost will defiantly get up and go, but gets 1-2 mpg less than the 5.0. Ford says it gets like 26 mpg highway haha yea right. I think most of the issues with it were in the earlier models before they ironed out the kinks. I wouldn't hesitate to buy a knew one, but if I had the choice, I would get the 5.0. Less shit to fail means less time and money I have to spend trying to fix it.

I don't know your budget and you said you don't want a diesel, but look at the Ram 1500 ecodiesel. I want one haha.

they get about the same gas mileage as a normal sized truck. I was looking at them too. But then I realized that your getting a much smaller truck with no added benefits for about 5-7k higher price tag. I ended up getting a silverado 1500.
