Getting into college w/ low gpa and high test scores

going forward, definitely work toward raising that GPA a few points before applying to schools. that being said, your test scores are quite good so you could probably get into a decent state school.

Isaac.So i fucked myself this year (and in all of high school) by letting my gpa slip from a 4.0 freshman year, all the way down to like a 2.5 this year. Granted theyve all been AP classes and shit, but my transcripts gonna look bad. The good thing is i did well on the ACT and SAT (32 and 1380 out of 1600 respectively, so im wondering what my range of colleges is.

You'll be fine. I had a 3.0 and average ACT/SAT scores, and was able to get into every school I applied to (Robert Morris University, Messiah College, Wheeling Jesuit University, Slippery Rock University, Penn State to name a few)

I had about the same GPA as you and just about the same SAT's and got into good college. Do you go to a good/competitive HS? If you do I think you're good.

Make sure you are president of some club and played some sports and you'll be good if you can sell yourself in interviews.

I was able to chose between Syracuse and Denver. I went to Syracuse.


Don't let stupid people who try super hard bully you and get you down about your grades you don't belong at a school where the entire student body got pathetic SAT scores and where speddos apply good places and do the interviews and all that. Most schools want talented kids with good SAT scores.

All the grades in the world don't change the fact that you are naturally smarter than anyone with an inferior SAT score its the best indicator of pure intellect and intellegence we have in society be proud to have good ones. Especially if you didn't take that shit 5 times like a dumbass.



Not asking for financial aid if you are white and middle class is a good idea and helps regardless of what they technically say.

someone who isnt me got into a bunch of decent schools with slightly better scores and kinda lame grades, like boulder, university of washington, montana, UPS, uvm, a handful of honors colleges, as well as handful of their state schools. financial aid is kinda iffy some schools will hook you up so kinda gotta work with what they offer you if you're not wealthy and trying to go out of state. this dude pulled an 800 on the reading sat out his ass and we were chatting and agree that it helps your financial aid a lot more than it does your chances of getting into a competitive school in the first place.

I disagree with all this

I just wanna add to this conversation really quickly that I really think essays are the most important part of the whole application. Like your grades are what they are and so are your scores and obviously it's great if they're good but a good essay is something that everyone can do if they put enough time to it and it literally helps so much. I had 2 different essays that I wrote when applying and i got into all the schools that I sent essay 1 to and none of the schools that I sent essay 2 to (the schools were the same degree of competitive) so i swear it makes a big difference

im hoping im in the same boat as you. have yet to take act or sat but gradewise and courses enrolled in in HS im the same
