Newspaper delivery

My neighbor does it. He is 37 and still lives with his parents

Dang that pay sound pretty good but those hours would be brutal. I would be a server, or maybe a busser, and you you probably make more than $14 a hour.

those hours are legit imo. I mean, you work 4 hours a day during a time there is literally nothing to do. Then you have the rest of the day to do whatever you want, even if you want to sleep.

I imagine each newspaper company is different, but when I did this, there were a couple things that were a hassle about it.

First, the ads and flyers would each come in separate bundles. You had to spend time inserting them into the papers. It took quite a while and they didn't pay you for the time it took. To make it worse, they also annoyingly had different flyers for different addresses (e.g. some houses would get the Sears flyer, others wouldn't). I ended up just memorizing this, but they updated the list every few weeks and if I didn't notice a change to the list, some old person would actually call and complain that they were missing their Sears flyer.

Second, you couldn't EVER skip a day. Sick, vacation, dead, whatever - it was your job to find a buddy of yours to get up at 4AM and do your deliveries. Good luck with that.

Other than that, it was OK. I liked being out early when it was quiet and nobody was around. But I wasn't sad when I eventually quit (I think I only lasted ~8 months).

2am-6am will fuck your sleep schedule up at first haha, but you'll get used to it. Plan on going to bed early at like 7 or 8 pm.
I used to work 5am-8am then 5:30pm-11:30pm with Saturday and Tuesday off for a few months two summers ago. All I did was work and sleep, but those paychecks were sweet though especially if you did it on your day off.

yeah thats another problem, i dont see this leading to any kind of a future career even as a summer job and im sure my mom will remind me of that frequently.

this definitely wouldnt be my first choice but im gonna keep it in mind, thanks for the info doods.

If youre in high school i wouldnt worry too much about the leading to a career part. I just mentioned my neighbor because its kinda funny. Plus im pretty sure thats his job because he cant get any other jobs. He pulled a gun on a guy at his previous work...

But if youre in college id try to look with something with a few more hours so you can make a little more money before going back to school

You need to have at least 2k saved up from summer(if you don't want to work during school). I had around this number, with skiing factored in I did not make it through the school year without running out. I went broke just one month before the summer. Get another gig to go with this and you could be set.

Also, this job will give you something that I really really need. The ability to wake up in the morning. Iv'e slept in my entire life and waking up at 8am can be such a bitch. If you did this gig you could get up at 6am like a champ anyday

one of my friends has one where i can deliver them anytime of the day, it takes under 2 hours, its 3 times a week and he gets somewhere around 600 a month. shitty part is he splits it 60/40 with his dad cause he doesn't have his license yet and cant drive to the neighborhood. about 3 or 4 times its happened where we wanna hang out but he is supposed to deliver them, so we just pick them up in my car and then put them in this huge recycling bin. apparently no one cares enough to call the place/complain.

dude $14/hour for 4 hours in the AM is better than 9.50/hr scrubbing dishes until 12 midnight
