THEDIRTYBUBBLENever really wear one skiing, which a lot of people find really weird cause I wear one skating, biking, etc.
baitI'm really Happy that in skiing you don't get judged for wearing a helmet, its the norm. In skating, wearing one can even keep you from getting sponsored and is super uncool. Congrats to the community for not Judging how to protect your noggin.
Minggholy fuck thats gnarly.
Peter.speaking of helmets, i really need to buy a new helmet this summer. mine is definitely too old and needs to be replaced
ben_collinsI highly recommend a Bern helmet
I've had a few for 8 years now and its the best helmet
You can use them for summer and winter
Big_Spence
this is a photo of a good friend of mine after our ride this last saturday. fortunately there was a group of hikers close with a first aid kit, because the two of us had little more than some washcloths and a bike tube. he was airlifted to Portland from Harris Park, OR where he was treated for a cracked skull...an injury that would have likely been reduced in some way with a helmet. he's 24 hours out of surgery with his skull fragments removed, a bit of cement and 18 fresh new staples. remember to protect that noggin kids.

sagerobThat is really weird... Why not?
skiermanMore kids pretending to be other peoples' mothers and nagging them for not wearing a piece of protective equipment? That's not better. You're just one of the jackasses that annoys the shit out of everyone else. Mind your own business and let others ski how they want to. I bet you'd be totally accepting and understanding if a bunch of rando kids were giving you shit for not wearing a back protector or a full face helmet cause like its totally more dangerous not using those things.
To the person who made this thread, your friend is a fucking retard for mtbing without a helmet. That is quite literally the dumbest shit you could do. Wear a helmet or stay off the trail. I write this not because I care about your health, but because it sucks to get blood on my tires.

Dennis_ReynoldsShop guys say berns are complete garbag, sure they look decent but your better off with a multi impact giro helmet or a poc
californiagrownWtf? You went for a MTB ride without a helmet? Youre a bunch of joeys, huh? But seriously, who the fuck does that?
*not the multi impact ones though.
Big_SpenceWe both had helmets however we were within spitting distance (1/4 mile or so) of our vehicle so my friend decided to remove his helmet and it was attached to his camelbak. obviously it was an incredibly poor choice in hindsight but it's something EVERYONE who rides regularly does.
skiermanYeah... no... most people don't do that because its stupid as shit. If your head is too warm to wear your helmet for another 10 minutes, then you either need a new helmet or a new brain. That really is the dumbest shit I've ever heard and its a big joey move.
Big_Spencei think i speak for all of newschoolers when i say we all want you to get a new head as well, filthy daywalker scum. go attempt to troll a different thread.
Peter.yeah i've heard a lot of things about how they aren't rated properly and are only hard hats etc. i was planning on a smith or a giro helmet
The referenced post has been removed.
Big_Spencelol not exactly "Joeys"...i have over a dozen years of racing experience on BMX, XC, DH and crit. We both had helmets however we were within spitting distance (1/4 mile or so) of our vehicle so my friend decided to remove his helmet and it was attached to his camelbak. obviously it was an incredibly poor choice in hindsight but it's something EVERYONE who rides regularly does or at the very least has done, especially in warmer weather after a long ride. the reason for the thread is to remind everyone that accidents do happen regardless of riding conditions or confidence in your own skill.

supermagician__you're still an ignorant douche though, because everyone I know who rides does this and i've been involved in biking actively for 10 years lol.
if this guy took off a half shell he is pretty fucking stupid I will admit though. No one does that on trails.
supermagician__this is actually really really true now that I think about it. When I ride at lift acessed trails I generally take off my helmet and cool off my hair if i'm on one of the ride outs/ roads to the village. Never on the legitimate trail, but at the speeds you get going a rock could kill you which is something i'll think about now.
you're still an ignorant douche though, because everyone I know who rides does this and i've been involved in biking actively for 10 years lol.
for example, on lift acessed trails there's sometimes a road to go to the village and until it gets steep and fast, wearing a helmet makes you want to die.

Minggholy fuck thats gnarly.
californiagrownFunny, cause I ride lift accessed/shuttle stuff as well and no one takes their helmets off till they're at the lift or at the truck.
skiermanSo you contradict yourself and then agree with me.... and yeah, that's exactly what this idiot did.
Just a side note, I cannot think of a more joey/gaper statement than "I've been involved in biking actively for 10 years lol"
You are a douche. lol
californiagrownFunny, cause I ride lift accessed/shuttle stuff as well and no one takes their helmets off till they're at the lift or at the truck.
skiermanI am a douche. lol
supermagician__just because I made a dumb statement doesn't mean I can't do neat things on bikes, i'll completely back my statement of not wearing a helmet on a flat or uphill paved/packed road until the point it starts to descend.
I can't figure out how you think i'm contradicting myself, so theres that.
I don't ride with the smartest people but hey if u got thick hair and a 20 minute walk/pedal, in the sun in full downhill gear, u really just gonna grease that one out? shuttle trails are generally the same where I live.
californiagrownHaha, I doubt the guy busted his head that badly while pushing up, or climbing up haha. If he did, well, let's chalk that up to a freak accident, not lack of helmet lol.
And yes on long fire road climbs where I'm getting to a descent that requires a full face I for sure have my helmet off and attached to my pack. But who throws the helmet on their bars for a short logging road run out? 30 seconds of fast gravel drifting is honestly one of the sketchier parts of the ride haha.
