RIP Merle Haggard

I discovered Merle Haggard in college. One of my roommates was a closet country music fan my other roommate turned out to be related to Merle Haggard and referred to him as uncle Merle.

Merle songs became the staple of our Karaoke nights and The Best of the Best of Merle Haggard got a lot of plays on our turn table.



I always think of him with his little dog and smile.



RIP Merle.

Wow, Merle and George were and still are my idols. I was just listening to one of his tracks earlier today. However, I can't say this comes as a shock, he's been battling health problems for a long time now. Nearly all the old singers that made country music so great are gone.

He lived in my community for a long time (Redding, Palo Cedro). I always had good experiences when I would run into him or his family or sell them sports equipment. He cruised around in a white Hummer. I met one of his previous neighbors today and she said he was an a-hole for asking her daughter to serve cocktails on their houseboat all night, topless for $200, haha. I was never his neighbor but definitely enjoyed his music.

His son Ben said that Merle told him that he will die on his birthday, which he did. The articles have been flowing lately with all the local media outlets. Here is one from the local paper. RIP Oakie from Muskogee
