What car to get with $5,000

I have a budget of about $5000 to spend on a new car. What should I get? So far I like the golf tdi, and mazda 3 hatchback.

update: I ended up purchasing an 08 VW Rabbit with 86k for $4500. It's a 5 speed too.

By far my least favorite VW bodystyle, but damn for that price and miles? Makes me rethink my current vehicle arrangements..

At this moment it is a very expensive paperweight rotting away in my parents driveway. I'm shopping around for the best deal on a decent salvage motor swap and driving a short bus for the time being.

Current plan is to fix it, keep it, build a teardrop trailer, tow it across the country to hood next spring, and bum it for the summer. That's a long ways away though so we'll see what happens.

I'd say you did pretty damn good and came in under budget!

Thanks guys. I saw it sitting on the side of the road and had to buy it. It's almost mint condition too.

you can get a nice reliable car for 5k...if your willing to put some work into it. could even build a decent budget 240sx for that much...assuming you are in the states and not canada.
