ip crap

if you have a router (more than 1 computer) you have 2 kinds of ip: local and normal. local is usually like 192.168.1.100 or something like that by default. And normal-web ip (the ip that can be traced etc) can be found by going to goggle and typing 'my ip' or opening up command prompt and typin 'ping'. If you wana forward something like a server or whatever you need to go into your router settings and forward the port of the application to the local ip of the computer. it took me a while to understand this shit

^hiding your ip is impossible. it can always be tracked back to you no matter what you do. if you do hide it you wont be able to receive anything.

its like if the world was the internet your house would represent your computer and a male order would be a web page or other download type thing. the only way for you to receive your things you need to give them an adress. you can get it shipped to a friend and have him send it to you but if someone really wants to find out where the ultimate destination is they can find it with a tiny bit of research.

you can change your ip adress but thats not hiding it.

if your ip was like you said 69696969696969 people would still be able to track it to your computer.
but you cant change it to that because its not a valid ip address.

Your router has an IP address that you can access from your web browser, like 192.168.1.1, from there you can manage a lof ot it's LAN functions. If you are looking the subnet mask, that is usually like 255.255.255.0. You can also PING yourself or use winipcfg, depending on which OS you are running. Also, if you have a dynamic IP address from your ISP it could change everytime you login. The same goes for your router adressiing you workstations. Usually broadband dynamic IP's do not change as often... at least mine doesn't.

to find out ur ip address on a netword if you're running xp go into start menu>run and type cmd. brings up a black screen. type ipconfig, and hit enter. volia. your ip and subnet mask.
