As well, if we had that space collapse for those with adblock, it would make the page jump every single pageview for those who are loading default ad sizes. Which is definitely not fair.

No one is a fan of change. However I really don't mind the new header so far as long as it's fully functional (my upload, alerts, and my threads buttons aren't responding to clicks). It's cleaner and simpler and looks less like pornhub at a glance.

There was a JS bug on initial deploy. It's fixed now.

There are some changes which are better for us to force on everyone. The old header was designed in something crazy like 2007 and its simply time to upgrade to 2016 technology.
Big_Spencewho remembers not all that long ago when NS changed their logo and everyone freaked out? the website layout change will seem weird for a week if that.
Yeah change is hard, but this one we're really confident is for the better. We've had a group of beta testers using it for a while now through all its iterations and the new header is much better.
Especially the speed it brings on mobile. This was a heavy mobile-first update to allow for drastically better performance on your phones.

I like it, been using it of awhile now and its awesome. Keeps asking to go back to the old one, but I still use the new one
i like everything except the notification on my threads. it makes sense for something like alerts or messages but i feel like it could really pile up with my threads.

Yeah that is the idea, you can clear the alerts. Its actually pretty helpful to see what is happening in discussions you're a part of vs. that you have simply been quoted in.
That is actually how OG NSers used this site. Everything was in MyThreads to see what was happening in threads you've posted in.
My immediate reaction to the new header is that it makes navigating the forums harder. It used to only take a mouseover and a click to change forums, but now it takes 3 clicks and I have to load a new page. Not progress, the old system was pretty slick imo.
Also, the alerts for new posts in "My Threads" which include every thread I've ever posted in are annoying, I will have to figure out how to deactivate that.
yeah I don't like this forced new header. it doesn't look as cool, especially the font, and drop down menus aren't as nice as the horizontal thing. and the searchbar remains the same shitty "words that match the thread title" format. I also miss the orange. all black may be the current trend among supreme wearing city kids but I like some flare in my day.
mainly I don't like the look of it. I'm open to change and updates but this just doesn't look sweet to me.

Mobile is the big thing. Over 50% of the traffic is mobile now, and this puppy loads fast as fuck on mobile. To do that, we removed almost everything that was bloating the old header.
First time being on my phone on here is right now. And it's fucking way nicer than the old version. Not a single complaint in my books. I dig it a lot more than the old version. Good work Bishop

also as for the drop down menu thing, I hate when I mouse over things and some shit comes out and covers my screen. that's just something that bothers me on any website or program. I could easily be a minority with this opinion but to me it's really fucking annoying.

This should make the mobile interface not only tolerable.. but pleasurable! As well, you can now access most of the site on mobile, whereas before you were extremely limited.
We might just be up to 2013 standards. :)

You should try it on your phone! Big problem with NS over the last few years is that its been primarily designed for Desktop. I mean this bitch was built in 1999... so phones weren't even a twinkle in Steve Jobs' eye yet. Try it on mobile... give desktop a chance.... see if NS can do it for you in 2016 terms.

I played around with it more and realized that you can click the + without having to load a new page. I still wish you could just mousover without having to open cascading menus but I would imagine you guys like the cleaner look.

Yes, the mobile interface loads the navigation on the left side with a + to expand. Desktop is the drop-down menu from the top.
these pop out menus are getting really annoying. if I go to click my threads or alerts and go a little bit too far with my cursor the shit pops out and I end up in photos or videos. not stoked

Profiles haven't changed other than the side columns getting removed. Profiles are up next for an overhaul so they fit the new site layout.
You know what, I just launched new Beta Profiles (enabled by default) for all members. The drop-down in the header now provides a link to your Friends tab of your profiles. However it doesn't show which ones are online. Adding that should be a quick addition.

You do realize we only updated the profile display right? Those profiles have been the same since 2002. Just made it into an interface that works on mobile.
As for the forums, SG will for sure be dead in the summer. NSG had been clamped down on so it won't be as much asshattery.
Forums are struggling on the Internet, but we have a great core crew here. Maybe it will be nice with lower post volume but higher quality discussion about skiing.

Do you have any other constructive feedback on the profile updates? It's essentially a re-skin to make them mobile friendly and fit the new site aesthetic. 90% of the features are the same, even the overall layout isn't that dissimilar from the last version.
It really isn't helpful when people don't give any sort of actual feedback other than "I hate it fuck you Newschoolers". I've been tempted to simply start deleting these types of comments instead of addressing them, because they add zero to the conversation.

Anyway, "shit ton of white space" - now we're getting to something we can look into. As mentioned many times in the thread, we can still make tweaks. That can include white space.
When you say ZOMG EVERYTHING LOOKS LIKE SHIT AND NS IS SHIT it doesn't help get to suggestions of actual actionable change.
As you can see if you read through literally everything we've ever launched, we regularly take specific feedback and implement it.
