Absolutly none of those bands are 'hardcore' they are all pop-alternative emo bands, I enjoy some of them but you have o admit what they are, hardcore they are not, hardcore think lowerclass brats or The wednesday night heroes, if you talking ska its all about Big d and the kids table

Ok, punk and hardcore are not the same thing. They don't stand for the same thing, their fans aren't necessarily the same, and the mustic is not the same (not even close). I don't care what you like, just don't mix up genres. They exist for a reason. That doesn't mean youcan't shatter them with something new ;-)

--Hardcore punk (or hardcore) is an intensified version of punk rock usually characterized by short, loud, and often angry songs with exceptionally fast tempos and chord changes.


--Punk rock is an anti-establishment music movement beginning around 1976 (although precursors can be found several years earlier), exemplified and popularised by The Ramones, the Sex Pistols, The Clash and The Damned. The term is also used to describe subsequent music scenes that share key characteristics with those first-generation 'punks'. The term is sometimes also applied to the fashions or the irreverent 'DIY' ('do it yourself') attitude associated with this musical movement.


--Emo (originally short for emocore, itself a contraction of 'emotional hardcore', now usually an abbreviation of 'emotional') is a term now broadly used to describe almost any form of guitar-driven alternative rock that expresses emotions beyond traditional punk's limited emotional palette of alienation and rage. It is also used to describe fans of this genre, most commonly teenagers. (Emo Kid)


--'Screamo' is a music style that developed out of Emo, more specifically hardcore Emo, in the early 1990s. Characteristic of the genre are the screaming vocals (not growling). Other than that, it's fairly hard to classify (particularly since the rule about screaming vocals is bent fairly often). Sometimes also misreferred to as Emo Violence which is a closely related but not identical genre, though each genre borrow ideas from one another. Much like its predecessor, it's very much an underground genre with virtually no mainstream recognition. The majority of screamo bands are from the Northeastern or East coast of the United States (side-by-side with Hardcore coming out of the same area), but there are some bands coming out of Canada, France and Germany, as well as Australia.

^ I disagree with those definitions. I'm not sure how EMO has anything to do with punk except for the fact that some punk bands who were never hardcore punk became emo (i. fucking e. AFI !!). That doesn't necessarily mean that emo came out of punk.

Punk was the Ramones, Black Flag, the Dead Kennedies, and Bad Religion. Those have nothing to do with Emo. NOFX? That's skater punk, sort of like Blink 182 on Cheshire Cat before they became teh &4yz0|2.

Anyways, that's my spew. Word up.

Musical genre snobs, especially about a genre as crappy as hardcore, are absolutely insufferable. It doesn't really matter what it's called, hardcore sucks. It's not music, it's an excuse for people to wear tight pants, hang bandanas out of their back pockets, and hit people at shows. Tune your guitar into drop C? Scream and growl like a choking howler monkey? You've got a hardcore band! There is not enough collective talent among all the bands in the genre of hardcore to even come close to adding up to one band like The Red Hot Chili Peppers.

You never defined anything, you simply stated that hardcore and punk are not the same, and emo has nothing to do with punk. I may have got my definitions from an encyclopedia but at least I actually defined them. Why don't you give actual definitions (whether they're yours or someone elses) of everything I defined. I wouldn't post those definitions from the encyclopedia if I didn't think they were true so theres no need for me to write my own.
