Over a dominant 7th chord setting I like to use the whole-tone scale, maybe even sub in a tritone. For minor chords, I stick around the modes and sometimes I sub in an augmented inversions (depending on where I want to take it) and for major chords I ussually go with Indian pentantonic or upper structure triads. anything else it depends on the changes. Always remember...When in doubt use the blues scale.
