Yup they are pretty cool, but Tanner was using AR5s and they are so crazy looking. The highlight of the night though was Farve throwing a GIGANTOR switch 7, he nearly bottumed out, everyone went crazy. I personaly thought he was going to die.

John Spriggs (from Vail) also threw a switch 12 but they gave him a 61.something because 'he didn't grab while in the air' witch i think is BS, they should not put rules on a comp like that.

@ things i have been thinkin about
1-Shouldnt matter ur age!! ITs unfair if u r competing at a level witht hte pros at 14 sure thats impressive but u cant give him more points solely on that reason!! Its unfair!
2 We out way too much emphasis on natty or unnatty. We need to be able to spin both ways!!

here's my rant, taken from a cult thread.


'i dont know. it seems that every year it is the duty of the us open to produce an 'unknown' skier, whether that skier is deserving or not. in past years, vinnie dorion came out of nowhere and did a flawless slopestyle run to win; philou poirier came out of nowhere and did a switch backflip to win big air; andy woods came out of nowhere and threw a bunch of 1260's to win big air; then last year, tj schiller came out of nowhere, won slopestyle, and did a switch 1260 to come second in big air.

now, all the skiers i mentioned were nobodys before they entered the open. then they did something super progressive or unheard of to win and gain mad publicity, and it just proved that the open is a necessary competition. but last night, without even seeing his footage, i think spong didnt deserve what he got.

first of all, what did basically every skier do? switch 1080. now, what trick did sprong do? switch 1080.

i have heard a bunch of times that in order to go pro, you have to be better than the pros. how did spong do anything superior to what the pros did? if anything, it was inferior, as other skiers were throwing more original tricks, some unnatural tricks, and even a few switch 1260s.

again, i didnt see the comp, and what i have said is all based on bishop's commentating. but i conclude in saying that derek sprong did not deserve to beat out skiers, especially charles gagnier, by performing the same trick as everyone else. his style and amplitude better have been miles ahead of everyone else, or im gonna be pissed.

if im right about this, then its the us open trying too hard to produce another 'unknown'.'

I dont understand how you can say who should have won or moved on if you did not even see the jump they were hitting, you have never seen Spong ski, you didn't see any of the other competators, you are relying on audio ducumentary to make a judgement that is hard to make if you have replay and are there live. Everyone else was throwing switch 1080s and you dont know how their style was, someone had to get 2nd place, and they thought Spong's switch 1080/900s were second best. So what are you complaining about?

thus his center of gravity is really low.
everything he does is super compact and smooth.
i personally have never seen him throw a switch 10
nor did he ever seem THAT much better than anybody else at my hill, but the kid does kill it, and he should get props where props are due

here is my rant, guy. A year or two ago if this 14 yr old kid won everyone would be like sick a little ripper, zero complaints, everyone would be down. But because there are already a few young kids who are good, its not 'cool' anymore so now that a kid who is yound beat some guy, people find a reason to discredit this. I dont know if u understand ecxactly what im saying, or if you are interpreting it the same way that i am, but again an example is how everyone was obbsessed with michael moore, but that got old and the exact SAME people that walked around giving his fuckin fat ass statistics about bush and shit now are like 'fucking michael moore, fat bastards full of shit', your all a bunch of tools, if u get my drift.
