ipod question

can anybody tell me why on my ipod(mini) in Itunes it says i ahve 351 songs or something that take up 1.4 gigs of memory , and then below that it says on my ipod i am using up 2.36 gigs on my ipod and only have 1.41 gigs of room left. that doesnt even add up to 4 gigs??? anybody, and is there a way too make more room. the math doesnt make sense too me, what is all the extra ram being used for
...

The Ipod has 4gigs of space. That doesn't mean it comes with 4gigs of space. The hardware/software thats already installed when you purchase it, takes up that space. So when you get it, theres prolly a gig of space already taken up.
My 20gig comes with 18.2 gigs of usable space.

My 40 came with 37.8 gigs of space because of all the crap they load on it.

my 20 = 18. also what makes this number smaller is that when they advertise it they binary gigabytes (1024 MB) so it looks bigger, but they're not really lying. a lot of places do that.

yeah, mine has 20 gig really only has 18.5 gig

the preloaded stuff on the iPod doesnt take up the space. Its just the way hard drives are. With formatting and stuff the sizes never come out to even numbers so they just round. Usually up to sound better.

my 15 had 13.something after formating but then you can use the ipod as a hardrive and put other shit than music on it. If you have that media card reader what not try emptying out the folder onto your computer same as any folders you created. Also don't forget you cna't fill your drive to capacity ie: I can't put 13.something gigs and expect it to play.
