Sam's edit was so sick, but he had no urban clips in it at all. I still sent him a vote, but do you guys think without urban he won't have as much of a chance. I think he definitely does, but what do you guys think

Zahnner could always just turn up the end of season jump session.

But yeah it always sucks when I watch a super unknown edit with no urban. Throwing down on a perfect breck feature is so different to throwing down on an urban rail.

He goes pretty big in the park, and he has his tricks on lock. I'm sure he could get some good shots in the streets, but he seems to like Keystone a lot.

Might get fire for saying this but urban takes a lot more dedication and hard work than riding around in a park. I vote for people with a unique skill set and style that kill it in the streets or in the backcountry. Those park shots were absolutely fucked and he could go hard in the superunknown park shoot but I just don't think someone with all park shots should make a part with Level 1. Level 1 doesn't make park movies.

tldr: people with a lot of park shots in their entry are lazy, backcountry and urban is what it takes to win

Maybe sometimes you gotta save some shit for something other than superunknown.. Look at all of jonahs crazy shots from the coterie last year, yet he won superunkown with some b roll park shots.

Sam is a highly capable urban skier. Anyone who has seen him ski knows that he is a talented rail skier. Put him in an urban environment and I think you'd see great things.

It's not so much about skill as it is in the amount of hard work someone is willing to put into their skiing and adaptability. That's just how I see it though.

That's not just how you see it, that's really how it is. There's a ton of skiers out there that have the skill level to put out a banger urban segment, but just a few are willing to actually put in the hard work that's necessary to produce a segment.

Really do agree with this, it still somewhat surprises me that Jonah won last year with solely B-Side or reused Windell's footage. Both Mitchell and Magnus earned their W's, as both had a mixture of urban clips mixed in with other disciplines

Yes and No. Not using urban shots just shows that someone doesn't have the work ethic to put together an urban part. All these skiers got the skill to do it but skill doesn't matter, it's the mind and motivation.

Well it really was a great year for filming urban on the east coast and all so you're probably right.

True, but you also need to see potential in kids who haven't made that urban/backcountry movie part yet. There's loads of footy of Zahner hitting urban, but he really brings those big tricks to the table, whereas some of the guys who had lots of urban in their edit I just felt like might not have the ability to throw down big tricks like Zahner or Quinn. I feel like either of those guys could easily adapt to an urban setting with the right crew and put together a banger part.

I say that popular vote contests don't say shit about anything except for how much someone shared the contest on social media. I like watching Zahner ski park but I don't like seeing that in superunknown. An entry with all park shots has less than 1% of the dedication an entry with all urban/BC shots has.

go back and watch zahner's urban shots in past edits, the dude is insane. Level 1 could 100% shoot him in the streets and he could be very successfull, you don't just 5 swap and mega fed and not be capable of hitting street...

My point is that urban takes a lot more than just rail skills. I just don't see the point in filming a video part to try and get with a production company that films a lot of street and not having a single street shot in it. Park is where you do your tricks, BC and Urban is where you prove them.

You don't have the talent he has without dedication, hard work, and the willingness to eat shit trying... This whole "urban skiers have the grit and work ethic park skiers don't" is blown out of proportion. Having done some very amateur urban skiing, but urban nontheless, people are over-exaggerating the issue.

Watching Zahner ski in person along with watching Kilbride ski in person at keystone. My best bet is one of them will win super unknown this year. I can't think of another skier in the finalists that could one up them in a park scenario.

i feel that cappola could also be one to watch in finals, saw him ride in person and he has so many sick tricks on lock, plus sick style. underrated for sure

Also keep in mind people, Superunknown is not what it used to be. This may have always been the case but unless you have sponsor backing to pay for your segment you will not get into the level 1 movie. I totally understand why there are way more park edits now..because why put all that effort into getting then dropping your urban footage in a level 1 contest that even if you win does not solidify a spot in their movie...

you clearly have never hit urban before. Literally any one of the semi finalists, finalists and many more people who didnt make finals/semis have more than enough skill(skiing ability wise) to put out a banger urban part, just maybe not the work ethic. and thats pretty much what it all boils down to. if youre filming for Level 1, its literally your job to stack shots. they need someone who can roll up to a spot, build the feature as fast as possible, hit it as fast as possible, and get the shot no matter what. Being in a park is a very, very different vibe. You can lap, you can chill with the homies, youre pretty much just there for fun, but with urban you're there for one reason and one reason only; to get the shot, and most park rats dont have the work ethic to hit a rail hundreds of times to get a 3 second clip. what many people dont realize is that for most shots, even the most basic of tricks take hours upon hours to get in an urban environment, whereas in the park you can lap and easily get 3+ shots per lap.

zahner spammed literally everyone on his friends list begging for votes, how do I know? He sent me 2 messages in a day asking me to vote, fuck outta here with that shit. There's a fine line between marketing and spamming people, they crossed the line. Good edit but the format of vote vote vote is annoying and literally just popularity. Most of the finalists spammed their social media and its actually preferred to have the companies supporting you to post frequently and do the heavy lifting, youre the talent they're the outreach so Josh I feel got promo the right way, but randomly trolling your fb friends list for votes is a little desperate.
