So I just finished Wheel of Time and I feel empty inside. Book nerds on NS I call upon you for suggestions of what to read next. I want a nice long epic fantasy series to quell my boredom. I've read game of thrones, WoT, firstborn, dark tower. So yea, help me out!

Highly recommend reading "The Passage" and "The Twelve" can't remember the author but they are incredible.

Well I like space books so the 2001 space odyssey series is great

Also, LOTR but I'm sure you've read those. Read the other middle earth books as well.

The Silmarillion by Tolkien, by far his best and most systematic work. His philosophical genesis of evil is really quite well developed and interesting.

The Eyes of the Dragon by Stephen King, regarded as one of his hidden gems as it's not his typical horror story.

I haven't read much fantasy series lately but my favorites are the Shannara trilogy and the dragonlance series. I've also been told to check out the Malazan books but I'm not exactly sure what its about.

Starting to work my way though the Origin of Species, however, I'm annotating the crap out of it so it'll take a while to finish.

Other than that I read a book of Native American stories called Spirits of the Earth by Bobby Lake-Thom. It's a neat read.

Actually Silmarillon is not the kind of book you mean here.

He never wrote this by himself. His Kids and grandchildren collected smaller essays or sometimes just notes from the master himself and put it together into a book.

Still an awesome piece literature!

I d recommend here:
Temeraire from Naomi Novik.8 books. Late medieval/ early new age, Dragons, England, ships, war, China. :)

While it was definitely not finished by him, it would be a mistake to say that he did not write it himself. It is the first thing and the last thing he wrote about concerning Middle Earth. The stories, myths, and histories that comprise The Silmarillion were first written in 1914 by Tolkien himself in the hospitals during WWI, and he personally developed much of the work using it as his continuity/historic guide for his main works. It wasn't until a year after The Hobbit (1937) that he gave it the title of Quenta Silmarillion, though it was still incomplete. He kept adding to it over the years, but the LOTR series occupied the vast majority of his time. When he died, it was still incomplete so his son added his other stories to it to fill in the gaps or in some cases have to write small sections himself.

Shannara Chronicles. MTV just came out with the first season on TV and I want to read this trilogy really bad since it was such a good show.

I never thought that he wanted to write one *1 book. As far as I know it was just a collection of smaller stories and essays about the history and beginning of Middle Earth.

Pretty interesting that he wanted to connect those 5 parts. Sadly Wiki doesn't say when he began writing the single chapters. It just says that his son published it 1977 after the success of The Hobbit.

There are a million good books, are you just looking to read more of the same?

If you liked the multi character, interwoven tales of GoT and are interested in sci-if, Pandors's Star and its sequel by Peter Hamilton should keep you occupied for a bit

And yes, these books were phenomenal. Definitely read these! Third and final book is out in May.

They are very long, apocalyptic, sci fi/fantasy, good vs evil. There are...ahem...."vampires", but it's not what you think. It's closer to a viral outbreak ala zombies than it is to vampires, killing machines of a hive mind. It jumps around from the government program of trying to weaponize the virus, to the program becoming a disaster, and it ending the world as we know it, and it skips from the end of the world to 100 years later where a small colony of survivors live in a type of compound surrounded by high powered lights that act as protection. It involves a young girl who was used as a test subject but who doesn't respond to the virus in the same way as others do (other test subjects were all death row inmates), and she is kind of an ageless wanderer. It all pushes towards a big confrontation with the original "virals" (known as the twelve.....12 original infected).

It's fucking rad, I read the first book right when it came out in like 2010, second book was 2012, and the final book is coming this May.

I picked up a one single copy from The Throne of Glass Novellas. Found it at the scrap yard at 75% off /claim. Iv'e only read one so I cant say the whole series is worth reading. It's an open landscape story, like Eragon, but based on an assassin's guild with minor magic and a few other creatures. The copy I found was The Assassin's Blade. 8/10 would recommend.

Also, the Rain Wild Chronicles is worth the read if Eragon was your cup of tea.

That show was worth the watch. It was just a bit over done for my taste. I would recommend checking out The Magicians. It's also a brand new show that I have been keeping up with.
