poofartpeeim assuming you are getting a meniscus scope surgery?i am getting it scoped but they are actually stitching the torn piece and Appearntly i am looking at 4-6 months recovery and crutches for 6 weeks.
if this is the case make sure you take it very easy for the first week, its standard to walk off of the operation table but your body needs a little time to recuperate after. After the first week start doing one leg squats, only go as deep as feels comfortable. Use pain as a guide for what you can and cant do, I know that seems vague but that is how you will be able to build strength back in your knee while you heal from the operation.
Oh yeah stretch EVERYDAY, this is important in order for you to keep range of motion in your knee once you are all healed.
standard time to be back good as new is about 6 weeks, but everyone is different.

galaxiaAs opposed to, what? Open? Unless he is getting his knee replaced, it is certainly through a arthroscope. It is not standard to walk off the operating table, as he will be given a general anesthetic, and wake up on a different bed in a different room. It is certainly day-surgery, so you will likely either get to use a w/c to get to your driver's car or they will give you an AD to leave. And I would start with double leg squats, as opposed to just going bonkers with high level stuff...
not to be rude but i have had two meniscus scopes that were done via local anesthetic so you walk in and out of the operating room. clearly you have not...

poofartpeeoh thats unfortunate, I've had that done as well but it didn't take, so they had to cut out the torn pieces. disregard my advice before then.
galaxiawork your ass off to get full extension ASAP. Good luck!

ebotdzdo you mean range of motion or flexion?no I mean extension, i.e. straightening your leg. Getting to 0 is super important for gait mechanics, so it is a big milestone :) flexion/full ROM can/will progress later.

ebotdzjust thought it was weird. i had a hamstring graft, two meniscus repairs, and micro-fractures done last tuesday. at no point was extension a concern. my leg was able to fully straighten the next day
galardogodYeah i am pretty scared about that to because my tear is pretty bad. I have heard of people kind of walking out of the hospital after haveing it sucked out but they were on crutches. I dont think that is recommended because of the stitches on the wound. But how long was the anticipated recovery? I am hoping to be back for football inthe fall and i am willing to go to what ever extent to get there.
galaxiaBe rude all you want, you are correct and I was mistaken. The only concessions I will take is that 1) the majority of scopes, especially repairs, are done via a general procedure, which is standard for pretty much every major joint, and 2) I am in shock that they administered the agent, cut ports, inserted camera and tool, irrigated and performed the surgery, stitched you up, and then you walked out without so much as a cane. Thats amazing! Good on you.
What do you actually know? you sound like a first year nurse student that thinks she know all because she bought a fancy $300 text books. Further I appreciate the sarcasm but I was not a special case for walking off the table after a Mencius removal, this is standard
