But i know people that have spent thousands on surgery for old sick dogs or cats. To me thats pretty damn ridiculous

My aunt buys little shoes, jackets, and bedazzled collars for her shitzu. She takes the fucker everywhere and it defines whether her day is going good or bad.

Last year she asked my dad if she could bring the dog to our house for thanksgiving. Of course he just went off on her... "Nobody cares about your fluffy piece of shit, I'm sick of hearing about it"... My aunt hasn't talked to us in four months and our families have basically cut ties.

My roommates leave EVERY light on and all their TV's on(no sound) during the day for our dog.


Not really thaaaat ridiculous, but HE'S FUCKING BLIND. HE CAN'T SEE ANYWAYS.


So here we are each paying 10-15 dollars more per month for electricity because my roommates are fucking stupid.

We have a family friend who has a dog that ate a rag. It cost around $4000 for the surgery to get it removed. Then it ate another rag sometime after. They dropped another 4k to get that removed as well.

some friends of my parents had this old dog with eye problems and it was going blind. so they spend $5000 on cataract surgery and it died of completely unrelated cancer like a month later.

My neighbor's dog always asks me to buy it weed and alcohol so I do and smoke and drink with him. He is always a dick and framing for stuff though. He is also my only friend.

some family in Park City has a zebra and a bison hanging out in their horse stables. personally think its kinda fucked up because they always look depressed whenever you see them but everyone thinks its this super duper awesome thing. like yeah, im sure that zebra and bison are stoked to have a bunch of dipshit tourists taking photos of it all the damn time. great way to live an animal life.

Spending a few thousand on old dogs happens every day, but what surprised me when I used to work for a vet was how many people are willing to spend literally thousands on surgery for their rats/hamsters/etc. Those people loved their pet rats the way normal people love their dog

Bought some overprice Elite Little Dog In-Ground Fence.We installed the fence, tested the collar, and trained both our dogs only to have them run away. twice!! this fence is an over priced joke! we just got a puppy, trained her on it, then she ran off. we found her once, but the 2nd time, she still hasn't come back! we checked the batteries in the collars each time we let them out to make sure they worked. The point in this fence is keep dogs in the yard right...well it doesnt do that by any means.

You have to turn up the shock power. My dog ran away once so we turned up the power and now he won't go within 15 feet of the electric fence

I work at a kennel and a lot of people up here in give their dogs prozac and other anti depressants or whatever to their dogs which is strange. Not only that, some of their diets are nuts. We're talking like 2 cups of dry food + deli cuts of chicken from the grocery store or even cuts of salmon and red meats. Thats like a good fucking meal for what im used too, i cant imagine spending that much alone to feed a dog, then the cheap-ass owners get mad at us for the amount of money theyre spending to board a dog for a month. Why even bother gettin a pet if youre paying others to take care of it for you?

All the meds we have to feed dogs is kinda wild, too. Some dogs have at least 4-5+ different types of medications just to get through a day. I kinda liken it to dying/sick relatives, why keep them around for your own selfish needs when every damn day is a painful struggle.

Im a pet owner myself but the valuation of animal lives over humans annoys me. Our cat went missing for a few weeks recently (bastard came back monday night) and my mom got offended when i said id much rather lose a pet then a parent, sibling, relative, etc. I get animals have issues and its fucked up too but i think that mistreatment of animals stems from shitty humans and problems we for some reason choose to not address or resolve.
