I work as a lifty for a company that I will not name, let's just call them "epic" resorts. The lift I work at has a very small top shack about 5'x5' the shack has a propane heater that is not rated for a space this small. We have a carbon monoxide detector that goes off constantly, all of my crew for this lift leaves sick and with headaches any day that we need to start the heater. I have video off the detector going off and pictures of the rating space for the heater. Should we try to take legal action? Any time we tell management nothing gets done.

I'd write management a letter/email so there's a paper trail showing that they've been told about the issue. that is kinda fucked though. I don't understand why they wouldn't buy a $15 electric heater instead.

Sounds to me like you have a faulty carbon monoxide detector, just unplug it

also logging time will help, like use the notes on your phone to write how often a day you take a trip to the shack and which days you or your crew comes home not feeling good. records of that kinda shit do wonders when they need proof.

second step would be to see a doc and bring a note just saying you went due to the headaches after work induced by the heater

You can file an anonymous complaint with OSHA. I know someone that worked at a place that installed a super loud fan. Something was wrong with it obviously but her employer wouldn't fix it and they already had a stupid policy saying employees should not use ear plugs because they thought it was bad for customer service. OSHA came out with a decibel reader right away and told the boss the fan had to go or everyone had to put on approved earplugs immediately. Boss got the fan fixed right away and never figured out who reported it.

If you did talk to management and they did nothing about it then yes I would. That's a big health hazard Or you could just blackmail them.?

The Occupational Safety and Health Act requires that every employer provide a workplace to employees "free from recognized hazards that are likely to cause death or serious physical harm," so they are obviously in the wrong. Definitely email management and have other workers do so too so it's clear you tried to have them change the heater. Seems like a case that "epic" resorts would settle quickly.

put in an OHSA complaint, and maybe even threaten to quit too because that's a pretty fucked up shack to work in honestly. and working outside the shack is pretty difficult because there isn't much room to work with on the outside control panel but it might be better than huffing gas fumes.

or just quit and come ski pow and drink beers with me and boris at snowbird ;)

we do also have less than a month before all of the PC resorts close so everyones pretty much on "Fuck it" mode and they'll more than likely replace/remove the heater once the season ends.
