Brussels airport and Metro bombings

Several explosions have struck Brussels airport and the metro system, causing at least 13 deaths, Belgian media report.
Two blasts tore through the departures area of Zaventem airport shortly after 08:00 local time (07:00 GMT).

An hour later, an explosion hit Maalbeek metro station, close to the EU institutions. The airport and whole transport system have been closed.
The attacks come four days after Salah Abdeslam, the main fugitive in the Paris attacks, was seized in Brussels.

The Belgian government has confirmed casualties at the airport but has given no numbers. The cause of the explosions is unknown.
Belgium has now raised its terror threat to its highest level.

Belgian broadcaster VRT said that in addition to the dead at the airport, at least 35 people were severely injured.
'Blood everywhere'

The Belga news agency reports that shots were fired and shouts in Arabic were heard before the two explosions. Some reports say it was a suicide attack.

The last few months our people at work have told us to avoid Brussels, but the last two weekends it's been forbidden. Same with the Paris attacks. Sucks when they're right, I honestly don't know what more these governments can do to find these guys before they do this stuff.

As much as I wanted to go to Europe at some point in my life...I think i'll stick to the good ole USA and canada. No need to travel to dangerous regions of the world

I suspect that we'll find the same thing about the perpetrators here - these are probably western-educated Muslims who have had all the access to modernity that you or I have, speak fluent French, and still did this. Yeah, I'm speculating, but just watch; I bet I'm right. Al-Zarqawi probably has never heard of the people who did this, and woke up to find that someone was carrying out terror attacks in the name of his organization - "inspired by ISIS" - and went on to have a really nice day.

Sure, I don't doubt this. It's probably even related to the arrest of the at-large Paris attacks suspect. But it's pretty ridiculous to start blaming Syrian refugees and other recent migrants as a lot of people are doing (and as Kravtz was alluding to).

They were involved in coalition airstrikes until last summer then pulled their support. Although I dunno if they resumed after the Paris attacks, they might have.

There's a connection, but not a direct one. The problems resulting from mass immigration from countries that don't subscribe to enlightenment values are separate, but related to, the problem of Islamist extremist violence in Western countries. If Europe had zero immigrants, though, you'd probably still have had these attacks - this behaviour is the result of decades of indoctrination of second-generation European muslims, first generation immigrants typically aren't the ones doing it (or for that matter leaving to go join ISIS).

Based on probability alone, they will probably have some Jihadistic aspirations and probably be muslim, does that make all muslims bad? No, he just went for the knee jerk reaction but the paris attacks definitely had a connection with immigration, in more then one way.
The perprators: All muslim, 5 French, 2 Belgians, of which the Belgians were of Moroccan descent, 2nd gen immigrants. And most of the others fought in Syria.

How they entered Europe, well for one that is quite clear, a bomber carried a passport belonging to a 25-year-old Syrian named "Ahmad al-Mohammad" and a passport-holder claiming to be a Syrian refugee with that name was registered on Leros in October upon his arrival from Turkey.
The dead attacker's fingerprints matched those taken at the registration on Leros.


And a photo has been published showing the suspects of today.



They look very very Belgian to me.

This is a ridiculous attitude. You can't predict when or how you're going to die. Roughly 30 people just died in an area that has a roughly 800 million people (Europe), so you're going to avoid that whole part of the world?

Yes, in fact I 100% will avoid that part of the world. You can say what you want...but millions of muslims are invading europe with no intentions of not going to one of the big welfare countries.

Terrorist activities are sky rocketing there now. I would prefer to stay in the US where we have the exact same amenities and I can understand the language. Im not a big culture guy anyways I don't enjoy looking at architecture for 2 weeks.

Sweden is the rape capital of europe now. Brussell's is down the shitter. France is a nightmare. While there certainly are good people mixed in...there is FACT that many many bad people are coming over as well.

I am almost certain that Europe is safer then the USA. I feel safer here than I do in my own hometown. Most of my friends here are immigrants and refugees just trying to make a life after their home was destroyed and all their families were murdered. It is utterly depressing to hear the stories from my "Dirty-Dangerous-Middle-Eastern" friends, nothing like how the media back home shows it.

In all honestly you shouldn't come here with that typical American attitude. People are people everywhere. There are a lot of shitty people in the USA and there are a lot of shitty people in Europe, Middle East, Australia, Asia, etc.

Well I am off to the bar to drink delicious cheap beer and flirt with hot European babes.

True. 0.1% would be a ridiculous figure. 0.001% is probably more accurate. I mean, how many of the 3 million Syrian refugees have been found to be involved in terrorist activities? If it is true that 1 from this attack was a Syrian refugee, then what's that make it? The real problem is homegrown terrorism and radicalized youth.

Of the Dutch and Belgian citizens who flock to Syria to fight for ISIS, 80% is of Moroccan decent and they are pretty much all muslim. (1)(2)

Almost all religions have had some form of atrocity committed in its name even though such acts may contradict doctrine Yet no one stereotypes these other Religions. I am in Finland at the moment, but I live 2km from the airport and the metro that I take from school always stops at Maelbeek.

The problem in Brussels is that a region called molenbeek has many immigrants who have a hard time fitting in to society, so they are influenced easily by these terrorists. The police in Brussels is scared of whole that region and everyone tries to avoid it as much as they can.

My thoughs go out to the people who have died or have been injured, and their families.

Roughly 110,000 refugees entered Europe just between January and February of this year. Using that .001% figure, 1 person would be a terrorist. That's obviously not the case whatsoever. I would say that it would be a LOW estimate that 100 of those people would have intentions of waging Jihad. That would be just under 1% of total refugees.

In 2014, there were about 80,000 refugees from SYRIA ALONE. JUST Syria. So using that 1%, you have 800 people. Let's take 1/10 of that just to keep the numbers "realer" for some people, you still have 80 people. Just from Syria. Just in 2014.

You see where this is going?

Just over 280,000 refugees into the EU in 2014 alone..and the rate has been increasing.


.01% of that number is 28. Some reports say that 20% of Syrian refugees sympathize with Jihad to some extent..whether that's violent or not who knows. Whether that number is real or not who knows. But even if we cut that number by 1/100, that's still .2%...80,000 Syrian refugees in 2014...160 people. And I'm cutting these numbers by 1/100...

I'm just going to clarify something here. In terms of Jihad, yes it does mean a war on non believers. However it also means a struggle against sin. Many of my friends if asked do you have sympathise with Jihad would answer yes because to them they struggle against sin. It's just important to remember that Jihad does have two meanings and that those statistics can be misleading if they didn't ask which Jihad they're referring to.
