Summer backyard skiing

Now that winter season is over in the midwest I need to start getting a summer setup. I probably wouldn't do it at my house since I can't get any speed but my friend has a backyard park that I ride a lot. We normally have comps there every year but this year we didn't have enough snow. This was our 2015 set up.



We tried to do some summer skiing but it really didn't work that well. We put water and soap on some turf.



Are there any other material that works better that aren't super expensive? Also, where do people get there pvc rails from? We have some solid rails but I think tube rails are really good for learning new tricks on. For example a rail like this (maybe a little smaller would be perfect for new tricks.



We have plenty of wood and materials to build stuff with so that isn't a problem. What are some unique things that you guys do that work well for the summer?

You could try lookin at a local hard ware store for some pvc, or possibly somewhere that installs swimming pools

Some are, but for a backyard park I would say we are doing alright with rail size

If you're in the midwest near the twin cities you can for sure come out and ride it sometime. It's a pretty open park as long as you contact someone on the park crew

My setup originally didn't even give me enough speed to make it to then of the ramp but then we soaped the bottom of our skis and just kept getting us in. The more runs you take the faster it gets.

Unfortunately I live in Massachusetts so I can't but still a sick park. Do u custom make ur metal rails and weld them? Or do u buy them or get old ones from a resort?

We actually have gotten most through craigslist. Some of the shorter rails used to be skateboarding rails and we actually have one that used to be in a skate park until the park got ripped down. Our largest rail, a 20ft urban rail, actually came from a school being renovated so it came as a legit urban rail and we had to do quite a bit of work to it. We have gotten pretty lucky with some of our finds, but if you go in craigslist in your area I wouldn't be surprised if you found some rails. We normally search "snowboarding rail" "skateboarding rail" and "skiing rail."
