Buy second hand gear, you can find basically new gear for way cheaper then new. The Sell and Trade forum here has heaps of good cheap shit. Buying last years gear also can save quite a lot.
Also tune your own skis. It's not hard and it's a valuable skill to have and you save money after the initial investment of equipment (wax irons, brushes, gummy stones, etc).

Abu-BaghdadiBuy durable fucking skis. 2.5x2.5 mm edges full wrap will last you so much longer than a piece of shit ski.
It may cost more upfront but in the long run will be better.
