rudeboySeriously though, is it just a personal choice thing or do you think he has a clause in one of his other contracts saying he can't have an energy drink sponsor? He could easily be making 5 or 6 figures extra from an energy drink company, seems like a lot of monies to pass on, I am genuinely interested, he is a g.
Kbob94Does he need to have one? Seriously not every pro skier needs an energy drink sponsor.
.lenconI mean, let's be honest, no one really cares for RedBull or any of that stuff but they give them money. With a big sponsor like Oneill he probably doesn't need another big sponsor. IDK tho it's a good question since a lot of big athletes have big energy drink sponsors.
Julius_SteezerHas he switched from quiksilver?
.lenconNo haha. I meant quiksilver, not Oneill. But yeah still same concept haha
Thanks for the correction

veetuskagI don't think he skis for money
Jamartinicandide gives redbull wings
prettygoodThey would limit his creativity and make him to have a certain type of social media/ media appearance which he doesn't want either. So in that case, he really chose freedom over money. Compare his two year movie project to Travis Rice's Red Bull sponsored one - this style isn't something he'd like for himself. Plus he can avoid media for a while and then just come out and drop the best skiing content.
3maniaWarning thread jack!! What boots/bindings does Candide use? You would think he would be all over the FKS and Fulltilts, but he skis some 4 buckle boots it appears.
parkplaygroundQuiksilver filed for bankcruptcy so he may change very soon if it hasn't already happened. I saw it on NS somewhere a few weeks ago

THE_SWITCHOnly in the US. I've heard they're doing pretty well in the US.

skidemon22you mean they are doing well internationally? and yes, they did file for bankruptcy in the US, and only the brand, not the ownership company

Profahoben_212you think he is going to use a pair of some of the softest boots? lol. no way Candide is on a fulltilt.
.lenconWith a big sponsor like Oneill
rudeboyIs this just your opinion or is that actually something Candide has said?
prettygoodI used to work in event marketing for Red Bull and, no, it is not something he said, but you can observe this from a strategic point of view.
Let's start with the extent of Candide's fame, which makes most of the companies unable to afford him.
Nowadays, you don't sign him as a freeskier, you sign a person of public interest.
Even back when he joined Rossignol the 3year deal brought up a whole new level of figures to the table. Now Faction gave him 4+2 pro models, something which is quite unreal in the industry.
So, we agree that if you sign him, no matter the impact he will have, this takes away a big portion of your budget.
"Yeah, but why haven't they signed him in the past?" - Pushing the public eye of a certain market towards one person was the strategy for most sports that Red Bull got in. So in Europe they supported the good looking, easier marketable Jon Olsson at first, which worked out great for both sides. He likes the show, he likes being on stage.
Ask members of the old WW crew; Candide never was like that, he didn't show interest in that part. They smoked weed to an amount hard to imagine, shooting Rastafaride 1-4 (for the films after that I don't have witness knowledge)
So, back then no connection, plus Tanner, Jon & Simon taking away most of the Freestyle Budget.
When Social Media became bigger and bigger, Red Bull pushed their athletes hard to blog, in order to establish a somehow personal relationship between fans and athlete (have a look at the content most of the athletes got out and how you get to know their girlfriends, family, etc).
The "Candide brand" is built around mystery - take a look at what he posts on instagram. Yes, he posts stuff, but you barely know what he's actually doing. He can do that because of his long-lasting sponsor relationship, they agreed on the amount of content he has to get out there and are fine with that. However, this sorta mystery thing contradicts with Red Bull's athlete strategy.
Remember when Tanner got dropped? Of course there were several reasons and he misbehaved on numerous occasions, but the Red Bull from 2000, where they would have signed (and did so) exactly the craziest, non conformist guys was different than the Red Bull in 2010, when they were looking for sharpened media professionals (Oystein Braaten, Jesper Tjader, Oscar Wester..). You don't think that they didn't sign Hendrik cause they couldn't afford him, do you? They didn't sign him cause he doesn't fit the overall brand strategy.
If you sign with Red Bull, your content will be (at best) produced by the Red Bull Media House; Candide is always executive producer of his own content. One of the two parties would have to give away it's strategy/ values, which is crap from a business point of view. And with both of them being in the industry for almost 20 years, I highly doubt that this will change.
TL/DR: The Candide brand and the Red Bull brand don't fit.
DINKLEBERGI heard rumors of a possible partnership with Runa.

FUUUCKthanks for the insight, I've actually pondered this question a bunch of times over the years and I was starting to lose hope scrolling down past all these shitposts about how he doesn't need one or the money.
