Seriously? I haven't seen one good ski edit come from a chest mount. Even if it's good skiing it looks so awkward. If I click on a video and see a chesty I just exit out of it. So please NS, if you're gonna make a GoPro edit, please use the helmet mount.
Chest mounts dont have to be used for just ski edits. I use mine when trying a new trick so I can see where i go wrong from a first person pov. Ive seen a couple cool things filmed from a chesty though. May not be level 1 style but it is a good change in perspective. I do agree that edits filmed 100% on a chesty are terrible though.
I don't see how you can find them awkward, there's alot less shake compared to if it was mounted on your head or pole, and its not like its that much further down, only another 50cm or so. I personally dont use a chest mount, I rarely film POV and if I do its with a head mount but I know people with chest mounts and their footage looks pretty much the same
yeah they don't provide a great angle, and they don't benefit from the stabilization that your neck provides, but it's worth noting that you look 25% less douchey with it, and it probably won't go anywhere if you fall

Candide used the helmet mount. You can see the camera from his shadow and also when he is skiing switch or does some spins you can see the POV you'd get if you're turning your neck, not what you'd get from a chesty.

kinda this. helmet mounts make you look like a fag and especially if you're trying to film more than one run. If you want to film your pow skiing until it gets tracked out, who wants to sit on the lift and dick around with a helmet mount all day?

No I watch them. I just don't like the angle. The handlebars are in the way and I think a helmet cam or 3rd person is much better
you know what mount i like, but would never use? the one where the camera is stuck out off my back with a pole so it gives a view sorta like what you might have for a 3rd person view in a video game
needless to say, the douchiness level would be off the charts for that one. and falling with it probably sucks i imagine
ideally we'd just have drones that chase us, full framed, down the mountain. but i was talking to bill gates and elon musk last week and they said they won't have the technology for drones to keep up with me until the year 3030 at least :(

After trying this, its the only way I'll ever mount it on a helmet again
There are a few tricks to get the perfect chest shot Ive discovered over the years.
First is have it tight as possible around the chest. You dont want it to move a bit. Next is setting your camera in the correct position. You have to put the camera upside down and lift 15 to 25 degrees up. That will compensate for the crouch position. The right settings 60fps/720 resolution or just straight up widescreen setting. Tune the camera right, and the right image will come out.
Second is your technique. Filming first person is really hard to do. They capture an image, not a feeling. You have to ride in an almost uncomfortable position just to get the right shot on occasion. You have to remember that you have an eye on you chest and have to ride accordingly.
Ill put out a video of a perfect raw chest mountain deep powder shot. It will come out in 30 minutes. Its still uploading,

e.litttyou forgot the step where you have to ride on perfectly smooth and deep powder to prevent any camera bouncing
Straight up 1:30 of riding camera conscience is impossible for me. Thats why most edits only show 0:03 of those shots, its hard to keep the mistakes low for a long time. This is for my editing purposes, but if I was payed to do that, I would have taken more care with the shooting.
