Things To Make Your Ski Day Better

So I just had a "Wow I wish I had these for the last few years moment" today and decided to share, see what else people have.


What you peoples got? Tips, tricks, tunes, gear, anything...

Even if it's stuff that people known about but some people might not. Anything helpful.

If you're out on the slopes all the time you've probably run into the phone dying problem. A decent option that I've been using for several years is the handwarmer method. Works pretty good to keep it from dying from cold but still doesn't keep it from running down.

Anyway I just bought a 2 pack of those little usb powerpacks. I'll have to see how they hold up but pretty stoked so far. Realized my speaker wasn't charged tonight, but I plugged it in to one of those and was cranking my tunes while charging the damn thing.

I've known they existed but not sure why I didn't buy one sooner.

Also the $10 ihomes from walmart are pretty solid for a cheap speaker. Mines been frozen in the snow pretty good and still works. Not ridiculously loud but if you keep it in your shirt/coat pocket or on your zipper it's more than enough.

This is the speaker I was rocking. Honestly surprised it lasted the season. I thought I might not even get a week out of it. I bought it while I decided what legit one to get but it worked well enough that I kept going with it. Figured I'd buy a better one when this broke, but it never broke, so good enough for me.

extra socks are a lifesaver if your feet sweat a lot. also for me, the handwarmer method works just fine. i don't use my phone for much other than music while i'm skiing, though.

Bring two sets of gloves and change them at lunch/ whenever you go in. Even if you have a crappy pair. Cold hands are better than cold and wet hands. I also like to bring an extra face mask in case that gets wet too.

A solid base layer is essential to keep you warm. I used to wear just a t-shirt and sweatshirt under my jacket and I was always pretty cold but when I started wearing a base layer I usually got too warm.

Fulltilts make a ski day better. But seriously, I think that having a goggle bag in your pocket is the most useful thing. I keep extra brakes, pole baskets, food and other miscellaneous shit in it all the time. Plus if your goggles fog up you know you're wiping them with te best thing

I don't know if this works with all phones but for some reason when I put my iphone on low power mode it stays alive all day on the mountain

I started bringing a pair of socks to put on after skiing for the drive home, makes such a huge difference.

Also chairlift muchies, like throw some tailmix or granola bars into your pocket.

Truth. My the last time my buddy called later run now bad shit happened. I never wanna go misty straight to back off the knuckle again.

I turn the screen brightness down so if I change songs it doesn't waste anything as well.

always bring a small advil container with you and keep a compression knee brace in your bag, I also use a face tube as a hat under my helmet because it's more comfy than a beenie

Skied today with a friend I've only seen once in the last 5 or 6 plus years, and haven't really ridden with in 7 or 8. Awesome to catch up with old friends on the slope.

If you wear w buff or facetube that gets wet after you wear it for a bit, flip it over so the dry part is on your face and the wet side isnt, repeat every few hours

100% serious here. I know of a kid who called last run, hit a tree and died. There is a race named after him. His mom is my neighbor.

it's all about pocket jerky, man. buy the big bag at your local costco/bj's/sams club and just put some in a small zip lock bag in your coat pocket. refill when empty.

We normally call "2 runs minus one" and it's worked since... or when we all know its a done day we save the one lap and call it before some1 gets dicked by the dd

Its the shit ! You got a bit more weight but when you get used to it you have some much more stability on jumps and rails ! And it makes surfaces swaps so easy

Get to the hill before it opens and get first tracks. Even if you ski in the Midwest at a 400' vert hill. I spend a good hour every day ripping Groomers and hitting jumps without waiting for gapers. There are usually just some older locals that I don't mind.

Everything is so perfect in the morning and it's really laid back. Or you could just wait until 1-2pm when the snow is chopped to shit, that sounds more appealing to people at my hill.

At Turoa people were coming down from Auckland and so excited to ski they'd be lined up for the lift over an hour before it opened. We had a small park on the magic carpet going down from the chairlift so we'd work on that first and sometimes people were lined up before we even got there. And we were going to finish, that go up the lift, and it was still a while before the public got to go up.

That's not that ridiculous but plenty of times the conditions weren't even good. It would be a sheet of ice, and half fogged in, and people were lining up like it was 4 feet of light fluffy pow.

Unbelievable.

I remember a friend who was a lifty telling me she had a kid bragging to her that he got 7th chair. She asked '"did you have a good run?" "No. But I got 7th chair!"

Like wtf is that logic.

That said people were dropping 20'+ cliffs when we got 2 inches of snow. and it was a sheet of ice underneath. Some wild motherfuckers.

/cool story.

I like pow in the morning but park laps in the afternoon.
