Sw 2 pretzel doesn't count as the first pretzel ever, we need to find the first 2 on pretzel 2, which I believe Tom or Steve were the first (ish) to do it probably in a super old roundtop riders edit.

The first time I even heard people talk about 2 on pretz 2 was at high North in 04 and they were talking about Tom being able to do it. Ns find the vid.

Corey Vanular's 2pretz2 in Shanghai Six (2005) was probably the first one in a bigger ski movie.

A pretzel is spinning one way onto a rail, spinning off the different way. Which corey did. Now unless I'm wrong, which I might be but that's my understanding of a pretzel.

Nah I just don't think sw2 pretzel should count as the first ever pretz. Sw2 pretzel is 100 times easier, that's my reasoning.

yeah you're right. I guess you had to understand the point where skiing was at. Front 2's had been tossed for years, so throwing in sw2's before wasn't that mind blowing. Switching body directions on a regular 2 in was though, especially as skiing was largely overshadowed by snowboarding and the trick really can't be done properly/consistently on a snowboard. It really was revolutionary

Also for most skiers, a sw 2 front 2 is way easier than a 2 blind 2

that shot at 0:30 is definitely the one i remember as being the first i saw. it was in a different edit and was the last shot im pretty sure, and the comment section was full of discussion on what it's called ("270 to rewind 270!" "no, you just say 270 on to backside 270" etc etc)

and yeah, corey's in shanghai six is the first one i can think of in a major movie

im not saying no one ever did one before him, but i wouldnt be surprised if that was the case. simply 270ing onto rails only got big the year before that...

someone should ask corey when his first one was, and if he knows of one that happened before that

It's crazy reading comments on videos that old. I mean I remember when some of these things were new, but when you see stuff every day in the park and edits you forget about life before it.



I feel like you'd have to do a triple cork out of a one footed grind while chugging a beer for people to care that much these days

First person I ever saw do one was C Van. I remember watching it in a backyard edit and also breck edit and going to bolton valley a few days later to try and learn it. I've heard it was K Day though.

I'll also agree that the first pretzel I ever saw was CVan on that first rail in freeway. I watched that over and over having my mind blown. That fall Shanghai Six came out and he had that pretzel in the rail jam.

During that summer Roundtop Riders (Wallish, Stepp) had the mammoth Zoolander in it that had more pretzels than I could count. That was the first edit that I ever saw that made me think pretzels are actually a possible trick.

I think all of this was 2005. Maybe 2004.

were you skiing park in 2002 and 2003? believe me, everyone was pretty fuckin impressed with the creativity and technical skill of this at the time. 270s on had literally just gotten somewhat common the year before. in 2001 a front swap would get woops and cheers from the lift

im simply asking if he saw another skier do it, saw a snowboarder do it, or just decided it'd be dope to try. im pretty sure we got the term pretzel from snowboarding, but they aren't as into them as skiers are (plus most pretzel tricks are a lot easier to do on skis)

im sorry, i guess i just dont see why he decided to pretzel as a mind blowing feat of man. I mean come on, if 2s on and off were being introduced it cant have been that hard to put 2 and 2 together (literally)

ha, nice one

yeah no worries man. it's easy to look back and think it seems obvious, is all im saying. we were still being really impressed by 2ing onto rails. the edge control to stop that momentum and spin out the other way was not something taken for granted back then at all
