Point.Take a year off right now. Honestly, just say "fuck it" and do it. I'm planning my winter in J- Hole and I couldn't be more excited. I'm going to get a job as a liftee or whatever during the winter, and I'd like to land a job fighting wildfires during the next summer. If that works out, I'm just going to bum it hard and enjoy my younger years. If it doesn't, off to college I go.
People rush into college or shitty office jobs and that's unwise in my opinion.

CabbyArrantNot to get to out there but recently I just haven't felt... Right. I'm a college student spending my time doing things I hate to what end? I get the feeling that I don't know who I am or what I want for myself anymore. I really would love the opportunity to go Ski bum for maybe a season to just get out into the real world and find answers. Can anyone relate to this?

Panta.PowI'm 17, and i must admit i'm not an expert at life, and trust me i don't have it figured out, but i'm writing my graduation speech now and i feel like some of the stuff i wrote can definitely help you out, or in a sense give you guidance towards making other life choices.
I don't know what you're in college for, but this applies to anything really. Don't try and spend the rest of your life trying to fulfill someone's expectation of you. It's much more important that you find out what you love and what you like to do and push yourself to find a way to make a living out of it. It's not easy but it'll make you happy. My brother could have picked up my father's law firm in a heartbeat and earned enough to live comfortably, but instead he moved out and by working his ass off is slowly becoming an art history major and starting small jobs at art galleries and auction houses. Having said this, there is one easy way to make sure your life will suck, and it's making it all about acquiring as much stuff (money, belongings, etc etc) as you can. In the bible, king Solomon, the king who had everything says, "The sleep of the working man is pleasant, whether he eats little or much; but the full stomach of the rich man does not allow him to sleep."
What i'm saying is;
Live in the moment. You are blessed with one life, and there is no point in wasting it. Enjoy every moment of it and don't stress yourself out trying to achieve and become someone you're not. Pursue what makes you happy and cut ties with those who keep you down. You'll find other people like you who are going where you want to go and you'll make friends who wil push you to be your best. I'll leave you with a short story i like, and i hope this response helped somewhat.
The Tigers and the Strawberry
There was a man walking across an open field, when suddenly a tiger appeared and began to give chase. The man began to run, but the tiger was closing in. As he approached a cliff at the edge of the field, the man grabbed a vine and jumped over the cliff.Holding on as tight as he could, he looked up and saw the angry tiger prowling out of range ten feet above him.He looked down.In the gully below, there were two tigers also angry and prowling. He had to wait it out.He looked up again and saw that two mice, one white, the other black, had come out of the bushes and had begun gnawing on the vine, his lifeline. As they chewed the vine thinner and thinner, he knew that he could break at any time. Then, he saw a single strawberry growing just an arms length away.Holding the vine with one hand, he reached out, picked the strawberry, and put it in his mouth. It was delicious.

JustGoWithItTaking a year off might be a good idea for you, but just keep in mind that you have a lot of years to enjoy life after college. What are you interested in academically?
Chubz.Buy a pair of spy gogglesAhhhh I see what you did there
Chubz.Buy a pair of spy goggles
CabbyArrantHad them, hated them
.lenconWell maybe you just have a severe case of chronic complaining.
CabbyArrantI do like to complain a lot but honestly I shouldn't say much about them... They were cheap and you get what you pay for. Love Vonzipper goggles though

PeppermillRenoOK first off if you grind it out in your major I promise you your job will be 10x easier than getting good grades in these demanding courses are. Promise.
2nd- you might be a year or two too young to ski bum you can't drink etc etc and don't have a degree to fall back on afterwards. If you take the break now going back will suck but do what u gotta do. If you finish college you can bum for a couple years get a good ski hill job and then bullshit about some comp science related stuff, get some certificates, and then waltz into a job.
3rd- Try and squeeze some fun in when you get older you'll wish you were still in college and wonder why you were down on yourself during then. FInish your work and instead of feeling shitty and going to bed get together with friends and crush a few there is no shortage of peeps at 10pm any night ready to pound some cold ones.
GL
.lenconBesides myself you are probably the wisest 17 year old ever.
CabbyArrantI know I'm atheist going to finish out my associates in engineering science. After that I want to transfer to UC Boulder. I'm just not real stoked on where I am right now but finishing out my degree I feel ATM is my best bet. I could do a lot as a single guy making 90k+ fresh out of college.
Part of my problem is I commute to community college, live with my parents, all my friends are gone now, and I live in the flattest fucking area of the country.
CabbyArrantI appreciate what you are trying to say but I feel that you misunderstand where I'm coming from. I'm currently pursuing a degree in computer engineering, and it is easily the hardest thing I have ever done. My life is miserable right now as I take 18 hours this semester with two classes as night classes. On top of that I'm pretty sure I just flunked the HARDEST exam I have ever taken even though I had over 30 hours invested in studying.
What this tells me is that I have to work even harder and make myself feel more miserable. Recently I've just been asking myself whether this degree is really what I want for myself and whether subjecting myself to this for the next three years is worth it
People who say college is easy never really had to try. You will find that if you push yourself it'll make you question yourself too Op. Enjoy the rest of Highschool those were some fun years
.lenconDid your spys have happy lenses?
crotchventWhen it comes to studying or sounds like you haven't found what works best for you yet. One thing that helped me out studying wise was leaving my phone at home and computer and just printing everything out that way you have 0 distractions.
PeppermillRenoHe said his major was comp sci I don't think he can do work without a computer.
OP will figure it out he just got unlucky and wound up in some super hard ass community college class where they want most people to fail so there aren't too many in the program.
(It happens more than you think at these places the CC up the street from my mom had a good dental hygene program that everyone wanted to be in and they had to make the preliminary class extremely hard to keep people out of it everyone was bitching about it in one of the other classes I took there one summer.)
As people can tell from my posts I kinda went somewhere too good for me and had to transfer ALOT of shit in to graduate.
CabbyArrantNope

safarisamHi. Practice mindfulness and self love. Then, sit dawn and ask yourself what you truly want. It's okay if you don't come up with an answer. Make a list with one side containing what you hate, the other side as solutions to them. Go from there.

THEPROPHET^^^^^ so fucking lame, you came here just to try and brag about your speech. You are 17, you don't know anything about life.
Don't listen to any of that advice. What you are feeling is normal. Recognize that. I took 2 years off from school. dont do it. Keep working hard and finish asap. dont become a ski bum. You can work, ski, and go to school at the same time. If you think you can't you are a puss. There is a huge amount of value in having an education. Uneducated people are very easy to pick out of a crowd. Dont be a drunk hungover asshole that calls himself a skibum. Stay in school.
Panta.PowAnd trust me when i say this, getting a college degree is is no way a guarantee you won't be and uneducated idiot.
THEPROPHETDo you have a college degree?
