"Monsoon Jerry" is about to wash Wisconsin into the great lakes... I'm doubting that anything is really going to make it to St. Patty's (March 17). Making the most out of the final stretch.
Even in northern Vermont things are looking pretty bleak. This weekend looks nice, but after that we're heading into above freezing temps for at least a week in Stowe. Not good.
I heard the Mount Snow GM is talking about an April 3rd closing date... I know we're fortunate because a lot of places close much sooner, but this is really discouraging news. Like, i'm really bumming, pissed off at this ski season, frustrated with the endless rain, and i'm just bullshit cause spring skiing is the most fun I haave all year.
Survive is such a tricky word. Are we talking about living a full and healthy life? Being somewhat disabled but still happy? Or are we talking a total vegetable living on life support for the remainder of it's life?
Option A: Dead
Option B: Still fucking dead
Option C: Alive but at any moment somebody will pull the plug
Mammoth should be open until Memorial Day weekend if they want. With this amount of snow and the amount that is supposedly coming they should be in very good shape. They might shut down at the end of April but it won't be due to lack of snow. They are usually good about keeping the mountain open. In 2010/11 they stayed open until July 4. They have done that before. In almost any average year they stay open until Memorial Day.
Mt. Baldy, the place I ski when I don't go to Mammoth, is done until we get more snow. Hopefully this storm will get it going again. I will be at Mammoth every weekend in March including a six day trip (I wish I had planned it for this week, but oh well) so I won't ski Baldy until April. Hopefully it will open again and last that long. After a few bad years it is great to be back in the swing of things at Mammoth.
We are "closed rn" but the resort teased this thing we do called "party in the park" where they take all the snow on the hill and build a park with as many features as possile. Its so sick.
well here is a current screenshot of gunstock mountain's webcam in gilford, NH..... so uh... 2 weeks? tops? maybe 3 if they decide to do the whole "white strip of death" thing
It hit 81 degrees in Albany yesterday. West Mountain confirmed today that they're planning on closing this Sunday. Don't know how long Gore and Whiteface are going to last, though.
