JH tram - architecture/design

after going to Jackson hole a couple times, the tram design really interests me. ive been searching for designs/blueprints/construction pictures and have had very little success. i really enjoy engineering and seeing how things work. its just awesome to see how massive something like this can be.

i guess there was two different tram systems, as the old one had to be replaced around 2006-2007. ive also read that the old tram helped carry concrete and other supplies before they demolished it.

so basically i want to look further into it because it really interests me. so if anyone knows websites, has any information, or knows of pictures of, construction of both new and old trams, tower design, cable car design, pully systems, motors, counter weights, cable thickness, ect. that would be great.

idk if any of you guys would have knowledge on this but its worth a shot.

not jackson holes tram, but im sure there are a ton of videos out there on the construction of the Peak to Peak in Whistler. that was some serious engineering.

Yeah, that peak-2-peak in Whistler was spectacular stuff, there's an exhibit at the tram terminals about the construction and all the various world records it holds. Be sure to try and ride the gray cars with the see-through floor.

Other nifty ones I've been on are the Palm Springs aerial tramway, Sandia Peak in New Mexico, and the Aiguille du Midi in Chamonix. There's also this less spectacular, but interesting one in Andorra that goes about a third of the way across the entire country.

The Zugspitze tramway from Garmisch ends up at an international border (with Austria), complete with a defunct border checkpoint.

Glad you enjoy architecture and engineering feats, that's some of my favorite stuff. Can't help you with finding blueprints or design, but I'm sure some careful Googling might get you somewhere.

Peak to Peak isn't a tram though, it's a super powerful gondola (multiple cars, similar system to a regular high speed quad)

So what makes a tram any different? I thought trams were just large gondolas haha

A gondola works on a continuous loop of cable, and the cars detach from the cable at either end for loading before re-fixing back onto the continuous cable and heading out from the station (like a regular high speed chair). All momentum is created by the engine turning the spindle.

A tram stays fixed on its own cable. Each car has its own cable. The system engine works to pull the uphill tram down, and this momentum helps to drive the other tram up. The two cars work in conjunction with each other to power up the mountain. It's called a jigback system. The engine assists in propulsion but not like in a gondola system.

A tram only has one car that goes back and forth on the same cable. A gondola is essentially an enclosed chairlift where they travel on a cyclical cable. There are more than one "car" on gondolas
