Boot Dilemma

I'm due for a new pair of boots, but I'm not sure what to do.

I ride on a pair of 28.5 full tilts I fit myself 6 years ago. I had my fit evaluated a couple of times (getting footbeds and a remold). One fitter said it was perfect and another said he would've tried a size smaller. I don't have any foot pain if I can get the tightness dialed, but that's getting harder as the liners are totally packed out.

I also don't want to remount my skis, and with FKS I only have about ±5mm in BSL wiggle room.

For my next pair, it seems like I have .

1 - Get new full tilts, same size. Either the new 99mm shell if it fits me, or the older one if it doesn't. I won't be able to size down without a remount.

If I do this I'm worried I won't get the best fit I can have, and I'd like to get the 99mm shell if I can. Rubber sole and all that.

2 - Get refit with a different boot in 27.5. The BSLs of 90% of 27.5 boots are the same as the 28.5 full tilt boot. I don't have a list yet, but I can take one with me to the fitter.

If I do this, no more full tilts.

Go to a boot fitter and get fitted properly. If you have to down size to get a proper fit then do it, remounting your skis should really be that much of an issue if this is the first remount.

I'd do a shell check to get an idea of what size you should be in. Take the liners out of your current Full Tilts, slide your foot with a thin ski sock into the shell and make sure your toes just touch the end of the shell. Measure the space between your heel and the shell. 1cm is performance fit, 2cm is normal fit, 3cm+ is too big.

Also you don't have to get Full Tilts, keep your mind open to other brands and get what fits you best.

Of course there are other brands out there, that's the point of this thread. I have narrow ass feet and if I were to get other boots, I'd probably end up with some Langes or dabellos.

My shell fit is around 1.5 cm ish, depending on the time of day. Like I said in the OP, one bootfitter said he would have tried to size down one size, another said the fit was perfect. Ie, 1.5 cm.

I can't remount without a considerable change in mount point because all of my skis have inserts.

So we return to the OP, should I just get boots I already know fit pretty well with the risk that full tilt has changed shit up in the 6 years between boots or go to a fitter and get refitted?

I'd see a REPUTABLE bootfitter and get their opinion before buying. If he/she says the Full Tilts are your best bet than do it. Just because they fit in length doesn't mean that they're great. There are so many other measurements a good bootfitter should take that factor in.

That doesn't make sense. Measure for yourself. 1.5cm is a pretty good fit. There's very little chance you could size down.
