ElgWtf, who does a cork 3 over a running helicopter?!
cool_nameI don't get why everyone is so hyped about it, massive disappointment
The entire thing felt so fake and edited, the best thing about the one of these days was how raw it felt, this video lacked that entirely.
Like ya cool he did a 360 over a helicopter, not like every single other pro skier could do that
HC_mountainHow about some steady-cam as well? I almost got concussion just watching it.
iggyskierjust give me Candide. I don't need him going through a CGI window to be impressed. Still an amazing video.
hot.pocketCandide needs to make a "lets get a fucked up amount of views from the entire world" edit and a "hey ski community check out the fucked up shit I can do without all the special editing" edit.
FUUUCKI think we as devoted skiers have to learn to accept the fact that this video isn't for us. With OOTD 2 Candide broke out of skiing outgrew his audience, he's staring Audi commercials and getting mentioned on CNN. I have people I work with who don't even ski posting his videos on my Facebook wall months after they come out.
This video, with all it's fancy cuts and CG, is a view magnet. Non-skiers might think someone doing a flippy spinny thing is cool, but jumping over a helicopter is going to make their jaw drop. It's absolutely captivating from start to finish because of the cheezy Hollywood shit, and that's what gets people sharing it over and over again.
No one's done anything quite like this, or gotten this much exposure. Candide is in uncharted territory and I can't imagine what's next. As a skier I agree with you, I hope he dials back on the effects and does one for us, I just don't see it happening though.
iggyskierVideo is sick as always but...and I will surely get downvoted for this, but....
Candide is probably the best skier in the world. Arguably the best skier in history. I just want to watch him ski. The effects and the random cuts just detract from the edit for me. I completely understand given the scope of the views it will get (3 mil on the first, 18 mil on the second) that the market is much, much bigger than just skiers, so I get making it as grandiose as possible, but as a skier, just give me Candide. I don't need him going through a CGI window to be impressed. Still an amazing video.
saskskierOh man. Just a couple more hours till I get home from work. It's taking a lot to not break down and watch on my phone, but I want to see it up on the tv when I finally watch it.tell me about it. Can't break down. It makes it better 10 fold watching on a big screen instead of on you phone trying to not let the boss see
That said, the drive home is about the most boring hour of straight, flat prairie you can imagine, so we'll see...
hemlockjibber8Thank you. I was just being kind in my first post. I didn't like it at all. Too much CGI (any is too much) and not the best cuts. I'd rather be impressed by his skiing than the editors. I'd love to see that without the CGI. Raw helmet cam footage basically

daOysterUmm, can we all agree that Candide just solidified his place in the highest ranks of skiing with this video? I don't think there is a single piece of terrain that he couldn't ski no matter if it was grass, ice, snow, or you name it.
beantownsmugglerFucking insane.
Also, I'm curious as to how much of it is CGI? I obviously know that Candide is a savage and that most of it is real, but I know he's been known to add in some extra effects here and there in some of his recent videos. For example, hucking through a window, landing on grass after a double cork?
These are honest questions and I'm not trying to nitpick, I'm genuinely curious.
Either way, the dude is beyond legendary.
ben_collinsUp next... Lava
CANDIDE IS GOING TO HOOD!
His skiing will be so fire it will make Hood erupt
cool_nameLike ya cool he did a 360 over a helicopter, not like every single other pro skier could do that
the_dougerits not about whether they can, its about whether they do. ill use rock climbing as an example because its my main sport. just because any pro has the technical ability to climb 5.14b (really hard) doesnt take away from the fact that one guy has free soloed it (without a rope). Its very similar if you think about it, the lack off rope creates added danger, and the helicopter does the same thing.
cool_namewhereas ill see kids throw bigger spins on the same size jump in the terrain park at my mountain.
KevskiWhen the CGI is so heavily used that I start to actually question whether the skiing is real, it's just not relatable or exciting any more. I'm not an action movie buff so I'm probably the wrong person to comment on this anyways, but that was the least engaging of the three videos for me.
stupendous-manCANDIDE THERE IS NO SNOW ON THAT LANDING
ghoti_hookI too was skeptical. It is definitely entertaining but I am sure there is cgi involved. Any time a mountain biker jumps over the peloton, fecal matter hits the fan with the media and the UCI. I may be living under a rock, but I am sure a skier jumping the peloton would get some attention as well. For what it was worth, it was one hell of a shot. Thoroughly entertained.
TacocatBullshit! It doesn't get any better than this if we're talking first person view. What we need is Candide skiing, no cutting, no helmet cam, I don't care if he corks a helicopter or bounces a pillow line
hemlockjibber8I'm not are if you are agreeing with me or not. I do agree we need to just see him ski, that's why he's famous, his skiing. I don't think this edit is the be all of POVs. To start, his camera was pointed to high and then there was too much cgi and bad cuts.
MonnorCartinSide note, how the hell does he clip into his skis at the start??
PringleShowed it go my dad and he didn't show the slightest emotion, just said "huh, nice"... And then he showed me a video of a bulldog on a treadmill and he was laughing his ass off.... Fucking fruitcake.
iggyskierAs a ski business owner, I see the obviously benefits to the industry as a whole that this sort of video will garner. The more people we can get involved in skiing, the better, especially given the uncertainty in the future re: the weather. This kind of coverage is great for helping raise the awareness of our sport, and anything that does that helps out the industry. With that in mind, though, the only concern I have in the back of my mind is....what if this is your first foray into freeskiing? After seeing Candide smash through a window, jump over a helicopter, and get pulled by a horse...what is left? That is obviously playing devil's advocate, and the reality is, the people this is likely going to bring to skiing won't be those that many on NS.com would consider true skiers, but I certainly think it is an interesting message to send out. At the end of the day, though, if it gets more people skiing, which it will, than it will certainly have succeeded, regardless of what any of us think about it.
dbchilithe fact that people are outright complaining about this edit in this thread makes me sad
the edit was made to be entertaining, not to be a chronicle of the pinnacle of talent in the industry
if you're complaining, you're both missing the point and taking yourself way too seriously. Watch it again with an open mind, it's just made to be fun
iggyskierThis is a great idea.
I completely agree with you there on accepting that this edit isn't for us, and that is fine. It isn't like there isn't hours and hours of amazing Candide footage for us to enjoy. I'm just stating that personally, I would enjoy the edit a lot more if it was just Candide skiing. The first OOTD was probably the single best edit I've ever seen.
From a business sense, this sort of edit really fits the business model Faction is going for, which is a high volume model. When you are aiming to be selling 50,000 skis per year by 2020, you are going to have to expand your market in a big way, and edits like this will help a lot with achieving that goal.
