The six pack is usually crowded and busy af. The guy on the end closest to the lifty distracts him/her while 1 or 2 extras sneak out

my friend tore his acl, and was out for the season so he worked as a lifty, and on his first day of work, 5 kids went up a 4 person chair and he almost got fired lol

We did 7 on a 6 pack closing day, pc tends to be pretty on it, but I see 4 on the 3 person park chair once and awhile. 8 is pretty aggressive, congrats

Yea...congrats on breaking a rule designed to keep people safe and the mountain open. When someone falls/dies/gets seriously injured...well see who is "congratulating" anyone than.

Just a dumb move on these kids parts. If I ran a mountain I would pull their passes for a significant amount of time.

Whoa dude pump the breaks, no one is gonna die or get hurt cause an extra person goes on the lift.

With the help of a liftie my friends and I got 4 people on a t-bar. Another time we tried getting 3 people on a pomalift but some ski instructor started screaming on us that he would take our passes away (!) if we would try it again.

I mean you have a fair point but the chair isnt gonna break if an extra person gets on, just seems like a silly thing to get so testy about.

While true, there is a large margin between the limit and the weight they allow on each chair/the cable as a whole.

Limits go well above what Putting 2 extra people on a 6 person chair would do. usually weight limits are around 1.5 times the weight of an average load. anyway, 8 people weighing 150 pounds is the same weight as 6 people weighing 200 pounds so the only problem caused by putting one or two extras on a lift would be with space for each person

lots of grumpy old men in this thread.

lifts aren't engineered to hold just enough, they can handle well over 2 extra people before anything crazy happens.

8 regular people would weigh less than 6 fat people. come on it's america I'm sure there has been more weight on that chair than OP and his friends had.

Clearly your not a numbers person or have any idea of engineering. Maybe the lift would be fine going over 1 person but still so unsafe. How about you say oh lets just go over the limit for the elevator, escalator, crane, etc.

Its not just safe. Don't be an idiot and take the next lift up

I guess I can't speak for all lifts, but I DO know the numbers for the lifts that run at our mountain and adding 1-2 more average sized people on a quad does not exceed the weight capacity. Person capacity, yes but that is more based on a spacial issue than a weight issue...

If you can't understand this concept you are a genuine idiot. Take some engineering classes. Limits are there for a reason and not to be pushed to that limit vast majority of the time for pure safety reasons. I love skiing as much as you...but I don't do dumb things like this. Well if you can fit 4 old fat guys who weigh like 250lb that's 1000lb so in that logic you could get 6 150lb guys on and still weigh only 900lb

I understand the concept of limits. But for our lifts, adding two more average sized people does not max out the weight capacity.

i wouldnt say i was getting testy about it. but think about the other 200+ chairs on the line. X6 is 1200 people you could possibly be affecting. thats all. while the chair isnt going to break its a potential situation id rather not encounter because some stupid 12 year olds are fucking around. just over the weekend a lift broke in WV..

Just adding a 7th person isn't really a problem, if you fit 8 people on a 6 pack lift, its safe to assume it a bunch of skinny kids, because 6 normal people on a 6 pack is pretty cramped already if its 6 adults (again, some are probably fat).

The weight that these chair lifts (especially like a new 6 pack lift) can hold is much higher than every chair filled with 6 full grown adults on each chair, thats a ton of weight, you seriously think adding one human from 150-300 lbs is going to make a difference? Come on, you don't have to be an engineer to recognize that adding one person to a chair lift is remotely dangerous.

Fucking idiots ITT

I'd happily get on a 6 man chair with 10 people on it, it's not going to fucking break. Seriously it's only a 6 man chair because it's meant to fit 6 people's asses. If you think it is a legitimate safety risk and approaching the failure point of the chair/lift you might as well wear a helmet while you're on your computer. Overloading an old ass fixed grip 2 man chair that hasn't been serviced in 50 years might cause a problem but even then I highly doubt it. You'd need like 1000lbs on one of those before I'd start worrying.

I've only ever gotten 5 on a 4 but fitting an extra 2 fully grown men on any chair deserves some serious props.

I don't think you understand dude. It's been said numerous times, by a couple different people. The actual weight limit of the chair, as in the max load it can take before breaking, is WAY higher than what is allowed on the chair for obvious reasons. There is a buffer due to the variability in the combined weight of the riders.
