Mogul Skiing?

I'm on a ski team and ski moguls. It seems to be kind of dying and getting overrun by slopestyle. Which I ski too. Does anyone else ski moguls.

im forced to ski moguls by waterville. to me it's a dying sport but thats probably just cuz i hate them. but im mainly a park guy

nah but have always respected the hell out of mogul skiers. I remember everyone calling them the "meatheads of skiing" when i used to "compete" in slopestyle/pipe events but the jokes would surely end when the mogul team comes into the booter lanes and shows everyone up.

I was a competetive mogul skier for a while. It was pretty fun. I just have more fun on the parks. I quit like 3-4 years ago. I also think it's a dying sport.

I'm getting into comp moguls skiing, I love it. I think it's a dying sport and freestyle has definitely taken over, but it really is a great time and super fun.

Glenn Plake always says the best skiers on the mountain are bump skiers. If your from the East Coast and you were born in 70's -80's you are most likely a bump skier. Tons of fun but killer on the body

I met glen plake in steamboat and he was starting a new line of mogul skis... .that was in 07 tho

I think moguls in the spring, when the snow is so soft that it hits you in the face after each bump, is just as much fun as skiing powder. My local mountain grooms the shit out of everything so when I road trip to mountains with bumps I become obsessive and have no problems with hitting the same line all day. That being said it's definitely dying, considering the huge rat packs of bump chumps back in the 80s/90s being nonexistent now, but you'll always find stragglers. I heard Winter Park's Mary Jane still has a pretty solid bump scene.

Awesome! They're hard to avoid. We'll ski bumps with ya! In Vail/Beaver Creek this week, then back to Denver, Then UT, ID, OR, CA....

yeah i pretty much put them in the same category as most racers-- not my thing but i respect the hell out of their skills

i do wish i was better at moguls, it's easily my weakest skiing aspect

Mogulas and rails, def the hardest. But gotta look at it in the way of hotdoggin instead of racing then there's alot more freedom and possibilities. Starts to mesh with flatland, ballet, jibs, rails....it gets alot more awesome ral quick when approaching it like that. Like this ->

I skied bumps growing up in the east, although not competitively. Skiing bumps will definitely help make you a great skier. The park is great training too, but skiing bumps will help you in steep terrain which you will need if you ever move out west.

I think part of the problem with bump skiing goes back to 2002. Jonny Moseley skied bumps with perfect form and did an off-axis 720, yet didn't win the gold. I think that turned off lots of kids. Moseley made a ton of money after 1998. He also killed it in MSP/TGR movies around that time. He was probably the best all-around skier in the world at that point, but his not getting the gold in 2002 drove lots of kids to the xgames, which is a shame. Had he won gold in 2002 he would have been even bigger than he was in 1998. His 720 was scored lower in air score than quad twisters, I'm not kidding. What sucks is that after 2002 they changed the judging criteria, now you see 720's in bumps all the time. Had they done that before 2002 and given Moseley the gold I think it would have really revived bump skiing. Kids would have seen how rich you could get skiing bumps, and also how cool it is to do off-axis 720's in a bump field. The current bump skiers are some of the best skiers in the sport, you have to be incredible to do inverted and off-axis tricks in a bump field while skiing bumps perfectly. It's a shame they don't get their due because what they are doing is mind blowing.

I am an ex competitor in moguls. I dont get to ride perfect bump since I moved away from the east; powder is more of the game. However, the hard pack conditions and tossed up bumps are still great to rip in a fall line.

On the competition side, I found its quite dead and the FIS killed it. To compete bumps, you have to spent a lot of money in which you will never recover in the end. There are rules beyond belief and the structure and format prevent innovation and a good show, Plus it doesnt help FIS has full ownership of competition videos and refuses to make the content free.

I used to be a comp mogul skier but my body couldn't handle the wear of it so I had to stop. Moguls made me a sick skier though and I still love killing some moguls, but without some bump skis (or poles), its not nearly as fun.

I usually ski bumps when its just a few new inches of snow or hard pack, great training for your legs and is nice when you get sick of park skiing. Nothing is more satisfying then flying past jerrys who are stuck on mogul runs

I wish we had a mogul team at my mountain when I was younger it's a sick event and it seems like it would give you strong technical skiing technique and confidence when sending tricks into bumps.

Yea I love moguls. An old instructor said the best way to ski moguls was to push your skis down the backside of the bumps and dam that shits hard.
