The.FishOur gm at bmbw in ohio is out maybe 4 days a season. He spends most of his time in vermont with his dad who owns peak resorts. I wouldnt want people to know im the gm if i were him
CashForToastThis is true, I think this might be because people tend to judge mountains more off of their terrain and size rather than the mountains personableness. But I could totally see that becoming a variable.
For example, at my home mountain I always get talking to the head of the park crew, we usually talk about what needs improvement and what is really good. I appreciate that alot.
gypsy_kidMy mountain is great everyone is high or drunk. Most of the lift operators in seriously into coke. And they always try to bum smokes off us. the Lifties sell us dope and let us sesh in their cars. there are families there juring the day but at night Things get pretty fucked
B.QuincyThis past saturday at sugarbush our first tim there, the owner came into the lodge in the early morning and came over to us a started talking, gave us some tips on what runs were feeling good, and gave us great tips about the mountain. We both thought this was really cool and he even said he hoped I enjoyed their park (based on my tall t etc.). Does anyone else have owners like this at there mountain? Or a personal experience like it?
RparrLol yeah he doesn't want people knowing he's the gm. I saw him working the lift last week and when somebody called him out he was not happy his cover was blown
hardys17My home mountain is Sugarbush and that is the first time I heard that Winn actually came over and talked to people in the lodge. Normally he is out skiing but its always with his family and doesn't talk much with others. And I don't think many of the locals like him because he is always trying to put in new condos instead of fixing some of the shitty lifts. But I guess he's taking a step in a better direction if hes socializing with the crowds now.
B.QuincyReally? When I talked to some locals both ski bums and park rats alike they seemed to have a fair opinion of him. I think the lifts could definately use some updating though. Also really sucked that the connector lift was closed because of low snowpack kinda seems like a fatal flaw, but I guess this year is an abnormality.
hardys17Yeah Its weird, kinda split down the middle of people who like him and people who dont. Personally I don't really care much about it, but the people who ski up there at lot really want those lifts upgraded. And It really does suck when that lift is down, that bus is horrible lol
B.QuincyYeah we missed the bus and then didnt really want to wait a half an hour for another one early on so didnt get to ski any park while I was there, castlerock looks sick though.
KravtZI ripped Stratton with the VP of operations a few weeks back. I could care less about a "personal" feel. Get ove ryourself OP. Chances are they are actually working making the mountain operate smoothly. Enjoy your time out there with your family and friends.
B.QuincyFair, but still as the consumer Id like to know that the owner is passionate about their bussines and is working with the consumers to provide a service they enjoy as well a efficent business. Also stratton is kind of notorious for not really having that but more just there to profit of the one time a year skier who drops money on everything in sight. I just think that its nice when mountains dont just cater to this crowd, if thats your thing go for it but personality is a good thing in my book.
KravtZThat isn't the way the world works. A smooth sailing mountain makes money and operates efficiently. They should know what issues exist. I bet the CEO is out skiing all the time anyways on his days off. Plus even if he isnt...who cares? The world isn't all nice and friendly. Its cut throat.
willumt99Things like this that make businesses successful. Would like to see more of this from other resorts
B.Quincy^ this is what im saying.
I get the fact that the world isnt all daisys but if im giving my money to a resort to have a good time and relax I wouldn't really want a place where management is a bunch of pricks who only care about money and dont really care about the audience they apeal too thats just a shitty business model imo.

BogsI see Win out and talking to people all the time...
