Biting your tongue

I just fucked up on a cork 7 and bit the fucking shit out of my tongue. all the way through the side of it, feels very weird, hard to eat/drink anything. Anyone done this before? Should i be treating it in some way or do i just leave it and let it heal...

You need to not eat or drink anything for 2 weeks, when your body starts to fail, your tongue will heal. simple medicine

definitely expected this thread to be about biting holding in your true feelings during an argument or discussion.

if i were you i would go in and get that stitched up..second picture makes it look pretty deep. a couple stitches will speed up the healing process tremendously not to mention you'll have less pain eating/drinking.

definitely hit up a prompt care / emergency room. that's a pretty deep cut, you need some stitches otherwise it's just gonna keep opening up before you can heal it

Went to emergency and the doctor advised me to wait it out and sent me on my way... What a waste of time. This is so uncomfortable

No man its deep as fuck, i was surprised too. He said they don't normally give stitches because it has a high risk of infection.

so there is less chance for infection by leaving the wound open vs. stitching it up..? #doctorlogic

saltwater rinse and ice it? mine didnt cut through nearly as bad as yours but that's what my doctor told me

It's really uncomfortable moving my tongue in any way. food sucks, been on mashed potatos. Not so much painful as uncomfortable...


Also, the doctor was really rushed with me, kinda worried he didn't get a real idea of the depth of it...

when you close up a wound, it removes the oxygen from the environment and allows anaerobic bacteria to thrive. by keeping it open, you prevent the growth of those bacteria. there are a lot of anaerobic bacteria in your mouth that they don't want infecting the cut.

should have thought of that. saw a patient in the emergency room who was bitten by another girl and they didn't close up the cut for the same reason

It healed up surprisingly well overnight, the main gash is totally sealed up. According to my nurse friend the mouth is the fastest healing part of the body so thats good. I moved up from mashed potatoes to french fries today.

nice. definitely just take it easy for a few days food wise and you should be good to go. and maybe get a mouthguard if you're worried about it happening again

Definitely gonna throw in a mouthguard on the next attempts for big jump tricks... The only reason i fucked up so hard is due to the newly shaped jump combined with hucking too hard for the amount of speed/air i took... I was worried yesterday but looks like this should heal up fairly quick.
