ShredAZMy '95 YJ. I was pushing almost 190k before she was stolen in '13.
slamdunkNot sure if you got many of these over your way, or if this is what you would call a rig.
Had her for 6 years but don't drive her as often anymore, she's now my dedicated 'dive vehicle'. Gets me to all the best spots along the coast.
This is her (the black one) beside an original 1948 Land Rover
What do 4x4 do you drive?

DANETRONI'm always wheeling. I've had too many rigs to count.

Meg.This is my baby! 2012 Rubicon MW3 Edition. Just got new wheels and more upgrades to come now that I have a decent paying job in college. I've taken her off-road a good many times but not as much as I'd like. I really want to go out to Moab.
ski-for-lifeThose rims are really slick! How do you like the Rubicon? I haven't been in a new Wrangler.
Ever since I started building my cherokee rig, I thought it would be amazing to road trip to moab. Although if parts broke I would be screwed as I live in Ontario hahaha
Meg.I loveeee my Rubi... The 2012 has the new engine so it gets better gas mileage, well did before putting 33's on her lol They are also mud-terrains and she has a stock 2 inch lift so the ride can be a little rough but I got her brand new so I'm used to it by now. Off-road capabilities are awesome. It impressed my dad (which is a HARD thing to do). I know the struggle of going somewhere like Moab since I Iive in WV. I do minor mechanical work but nothing that would help if something serious went wrong haha
ski-for-lifeThat's is just awesome! Mine rides moderately rough being on 3" short arm lift and 31s. But I love it, quite noisy in the cabin on the highway lol. I've done all the work on my jeep since I got it almost a year ago. Other than a clutch fan. But sometimes it's better to save things to the pros lol I've made some stupid and very costly mistakes
Meg.That's awesome! I'm changing out the springs soon to get a little more lift. I can change my oil/brakes, that kind of stuff. I put the wheels on her, which was kinda rough considering their size and weight plus the fact that I'm 5'4 and approx. 110 lbs lol but I can successfully get my lug nuts torqued so that's a win in my book! My dad is a mechanic so he teaches me as we go.

saskskierUsed to have a lifted 99' 4runner. It was awesome, but I do too much highway driving for it to be practical. It was pretty great, but I don't miss 300km per tank or gas.
KravtZMoving to Denver later this year...looking at some new cars.
2012-2013 nissan xterra in the pro-4x trim
2010+ toyota 4runner
2010+ toyota tacoma (if I can find a good deal on a double car with a long bed)
jeep wrangler 4 door.
others potentially...
chevy tahoe
f150
FJ cruiser
I have 2 buckets basically looking for midsize with AWD in a certain price range. I feel like the bottom vehicles may just be to inpractical or to much vehicle for what I need on a daily basis. Can always throw a roof rack on with a thule or something
byuboundShamelessly hyping my own car, but have you looked at a frontier? Lots of long bed double cabs for sale way cheaper than tacomas, and I know people who are pushing them to like 300k.

charmandertest drove frontiers and tacomas
glad i bought a taco. but the short bed sucks, just get a long bed. i would do it again and accept i cant have a stick
KravtZAny chance you could / someone could post a pic of the short bed with skis in the back? Have been looking at a taco and getting one of those leer caps for it also

.MASSHOLE.I may be able to by this weekend if no one else does. I have 186 Peacemakers and Gunsmokes and have fit 192 BD Zealots in there as well (it was tight).
I use a softcover, so I imagine a cap will give you more space to stack skis as well.
KravtZCool...i mean taco is m #1 right now for the reliability alone and resale value. Good to know. My longest sticks are 189 and I don't usually ski with more than 4 max. Was gunna get a bed cap or a leer cap so well see. Thanks for the info though
.MASSHOLE.Yeah thats why I went with one. I was a little concerned at first but they fit like a glove diagonally. A cap will make it x100 times easier than just a soft cover, I was too lazy to roll it up to put skis in normally.
KravtZThanks man...taco moving up my list after hearing this. Going to test drive next week when Im back from CO and see what works best. For some reason 4runner of comparable price/mileage is going for 3-4000 more than the taco which is annoying.
Kind of have my list narrowed down to the taco or an xterra pro-4x some awesome deals going around on them basically new in my price range
.MASSHOLE.I think it is because the 4runners are perceived to have a "higher quality" build because they're still built in Japan vs. Mexico/the US.
I am assuming you're looking at 2nd Gens, if you haven't already check out Tacomaworld.com and browse the 2nd Gen area. They will have almost all the common issues, fixes, and other details you will need. I know for a fact you will want to look at the frame for rust.
charmanderRE: skis in 5' bed. They fit diagonally fine, my daily drivers are 193 cochises.
Why not get the long bed though? I bought my shorty solely to get the 6MT, which gets worse economy and has more issues than the automatic, so i personally regret that choice.
Also, if you need to carry bikes you will need a hitch rack or tailgate pad, no way to carry more than 1 mt bike in the bed without making a big nasty derailleur eating pile.
I've enjoyed my truck so far but will go back to a full size as soon as the wife lets me.
KravtZMore and more that I look at it the xterra just seems like a better deal. Solid reliability and I can get the pro-4x which apparently is a pretty beast off road (in the rare case I actually need it). A bit on the small size though but seems more practical compared to the tacoma
KravtZGoing to go test drive a few cars next week when im back from CO.
Going to pull the trigger since I need a new car pretty soon anyways mine is falling apart.
Narrowed it down to a Nissan Xterra...can get like a 2014-2015 basically new with less than 15,000 miles on it (or around 30,000 if I move up to the pro-4x trim which I probably dont need anyways)
Or I could go with a tacoma double cab 4x4 years 2010-2013 with around 30-42000 miles on it or so.
I know they are both two different cars wanted some opinions. Been looking at a 4runner in the new body style and the mileage is a bit over what I want around my price range most fall into the 50,000 miles + range. Anyone have any thoughts on both of these cars? I know they're different since ones an suv and ones a pick up but relatively similar. Im leaning towards the taco just based on having a bed but what yall think
byuboundAyy matching wheels. This is my 2012 frontier 4x4. Looking at doing a maybe 3" lift and some sliders soon.
KravtZBadass....just picked up a 2012 Xterra with 16,000 miles on it basically brand new for the most part.
Looking at doing something similar to your frontier. Some black wheels and some bigger tires with a small lift on it nothing to crazy. Maybe some rock bars that come out the side a bit extra as running boards since my xterra came without them.
Also got the S trim...for some reason the radio doesn't have an AUX jack which pisses me off so i'll probably do an aftermarket radio with an AUX jack in it assuming I can find one that fits the factory spot really nicely and doesn't stick out, etc .
byuboundSounds sick. Weird that yours doesnt have a aux jack, my frontier is a 2012 s package and it has one. I've heard great things about these sliders: http://white-knuckleoffroad.com/nissanxterra.htm.
Have fun with it, xterras are rad!
Ski.BalletJust picked up a 2003 Tundra TRD (only 73k miles!!!!). About to install Bilstein 5100's front and rear with a Wheelers AAL to get 1.5 lift in back and 2-2.5 in front. Gonna put on some pizza cutters when my shitty LTX AT2's need replacing. Anyone know of good wheeling spots in New England? Moving to CT from CO in Aug.
steezysteezeYeah thats the first thing that I'm doing this spring. Just gotta wait it out a bit, I hate looking back at it and all I can think of is monster energy and scooter kids. Gonna replace them with something like this:
Your Cherokee looks sweet btw, love the fenders.
JayRichI love those rims. Think they'd look bad on an Outback?
Caucasian_AsianWhat year?
I think they might just look like a winter steel wheel on a stock newer model. We have a set of gunmetal rims off a GT-B, and they look great with the grey body cladding.
