Friends Starting to get "Burned out"

So I usually have 5 or so friends that I can always count on to ski with but recently they have all started to get "burned out" and tired of skiing and hardly ever wanna go anymore. Skiing solo is only fun for so long... but just wanted to get out my frustrations and was wondering if there is anyone else who's in the same situation?

i got friend like this too, he recently just bailed on a trip out west to go fishing in florida. sad stuff man, i cant imagine burning out its too fun

Have no one to ski with so I'm getting pretty burned out with skiing. Its starting to almost feel like a chore to go to the mountain lately.

From my personal, well seasoned experience there is a ton of things in life that are just as much fun as skiing;

Surfing
Skydiving
Paragliding/Speedflying
Rock Climbing
White Water Kayaking

Those are the one's I've found so far. This coming from a guy whose skied 30+ days a year for 25 years.

It happens man. I'm starting to get burnt out with this extremely shitty season we're having on the East coast. I live to ski steep tree lines, but there hasn't been any of that this season.

Anywho, OP, I have experienced this as well. My main ski bro has decided to instruct 5 year olds and never wants to actually do anything. A bunch of other friends pussy out of plans, and everyone else is either (a) bad at skiing or (b) simply doesn't love it enough to do it over other things. I've gone every day solo this year and it's not as bad as I thought it would be. For some reason I actually progress faster without having to wait for other people, despite a lack of peer pressure (I think peer pressure just makes me sike myself out, while being alone allows me to focus).

Sure, sometimes I'd rather be with friends, but at the same time, skiing alone is a very unique experience and brings on a new side to skiing that I hadn't experienced much of prior to this season. It's just you and the mountain really.

Yep, you're the guy in your group who is just more into it than your friends. From personal experience, it's hard to get people back once they've burned out. Sometimes you just have to find new skiing friends. It sucks, but it is too often the reality. Good luck man!

Im scared that i might be starting to get burned out on skiing. i keep getting injured and my normally 50 day season turns into 20 shitty days. I love skiing but it keeps beating the shit out of me.

The guy that speaks the truth gets downvoted. There are plenty of other things in life that are just as fun. Im not burned out on skiing but I also don't get bummed when the season ends because there are plenty of other things to do. People find other hobbies only way to really deal with not having friends to ski with is to make new/more friends

this season kind of sucks for me, i have been working weekends and school during the week. Only have like 35 days so far and last season at this time it was around 55-60. Next season will be chill though, working and skiing, no school for me.

Same thing has been happening to my friends. Around the age of 15 to 18 a lot of people get a job or girlfriend or just a new interest that they like more than skiing. It could also be injury or lack of progression. It's a bummer when some of your best friends just quit when you used to have a great time skiing with them. Thankful that I still have a few friends that are into it as much as I am!

Some people like skiing for a little, but there ultimately are 2 types of people, when you lie in bed at night you are either thinking about skiing or your not, its simple as that. I think thats what makes you a skiier for life

same the vibe at my local hill is so stale now with this shitty season with little snow in the east. And are groomer keeps breaking so we cant do much with the park i hate skiing solo i feel lonely.

Have you dedicated time to becoming good at any of these things? I still love skiing, but effortlessly sending the same runs / drops / jumps season after season just loses it's excitement after a a decade or so. That's why I started back country skiing, and took up a plethora of other hobbies.

I'm not doubting those other activities are fun, but I think I speak for many people on this site when I say that skiing reigns supreme, even if that's just by a little bit.

Your problem (and correct me if I'm wrong), seems to be that you ski at the same resort and have been for the past decade+. If that's the case, then learn new things, find new lines, challenge yourself. I've never experienced being bored with a mountain, because I travel all over to ski (doubt I've had more than 7 days at one mountain a season) and if I did, I would move on to another resort.

Just my 2 cents. I mean backcountry skiing is still skiing, even if it's not on the same terrain you've been skiing the last ten years lol.

It's a bummer. For some people I wonder if it is a fear of not being able to shred as hard or keep up. I have a friend that I always used to ski with that hasn't been out in a couple of seasons now. This year I talked him into buying 3 weekday vouchers on a cyber Monday deal thinking that would get him back out there. He's been making all sorts of work excuses and then yesterday I got a voice mail from him and he was in Maui. IDK but I think dude might end up just not using his vouchers.

thats just life man. move on and meet new people. You arent going to keep up with every sport or hobby you did as a kid. Just because you played base all in school doesnt mean youll do it forever etc.

Skiing means different things do different people. Some people get to a point where they would rather do other things.

Talk to more people in the park.

It happens op, I rode solo all through high school too. When getting burnt out, I would explore the mountain, look for shacks, do some boot packing, and straight line for some thrills. When your time window to ski begins to close, that's all you'll think about.

That's not uncommon for young shredders dawg. At some point you'll find the line where you can progress and keep ripping without getting hurt. When you're sending, just be honest with yourself about what you are good enough to work towards safely, and what is pushing too far for your current ability (i.e. likely to cause injury).

OP, (i) shredding alone, as pointed out above, can actually be real fun and very beneficial for progression, and (ii) find new homies at the mountain or a ski shop - there's a ton of rad dudes and dudettes that shred, don't be a stranger.

People change. you can't expect somebody to keep up with all of the same hobbies their whole life. IF he hasn't been out for a few years he probably doesn't care about it.


One instance that bummed me out a bit. Some friends who I also worked park crew with some of them at different points, used to crush the urban game. Really good imo. Then they all got real jobs and sort of faded away from it. They were ahead of the game, and hit some pretty challenging spots with security etc. This was all 10-5 years ago.

That said they had other things they wanted to do. It's understandable. I think they're all in different places now as well which doesn't help. They like the sport, they had some good times, but they've moved on.

Holy shit, I got a sweet adrenaline rush just by watching that video! Definitely want to try speedflying now.

But I have starting to feel "burning out", now at age 25 I don't care much about competitions and learning new tricks, I just want to ski for fun and do other stuff besides skiing.
