DominatorJacquesI'm no expert
eheathThe canon 10-18 is garbage IMO
AltitudeFotoThe Canon is most likely a much better lens
AltitudeFotoThe Canon is most likely a much better lens, but for the price of the Tokina, you can't beat that. Go Tokina.
eheathnot true necessarily, thats like saying the 17-55 kit lens is just as good as a 17-55 2.8 because its labelled canon. The 10-18 would probably work fine but the other two tokina lenses are much better options for almost the same price (or in this case, cheaper).
whiteboiSo lately I have really been wanting to buy a wide angle lens to use with my Canon Rebel T3i for mainly taking pictures ( and a little filming). I have narrowed it down to the Tokina 12-24mm f/4.0 and the Canon 10-18mm f/4.5-5.6. I have the option to buy the Tokina for $175 on the web, used and in good condition. I also have the option of buying the Canon from a friend, and he only used it a handful of times. Who has experience with these lenses? I'd love to hear some feedback for both before I go buying.

DominatorJacquesI can't seem to see where the OP said what he could purchase the Canon lens for.
I did see he stated his cost for the other. It was an online deal claiming to be in good condition. Online who knows?
The Canon he said was from a friend and only used a few times. If his friend has not damaged it that might be sweet for the right price. Online shipping cost?
So if he can get the Canon lens for equal or less cost, what then?
DominatorJacquesHow much for the Canon lens from your "friend"?
whiteboiThe guy sent me pictures of it, a few minor scratches on the body but none on the glass. It looks as if it's in perfect working order
$220, I'll probably end up going with the Tokina.
DominatorJacquesGood price. I paid $450 for my wide Canon glass but that was new. Good filming and shooting to you!
