You may be right about that. But the fact that he did it all to someday become influential enough to get back at Orage for dropping him kind of invalidates it all. I mean, you gotta admit it's pretty fucked up holding that big of a grudge for that long.

You must mean my "small, obscure cameo" in TBC. I had two minutes of cutaways of me skiing down stairs to stretch it into a full segment but I wasn't tight enough with the guys at TBC to get them to put it in the movie.

Just cause someone else can separate the two distinct sides to the "sport" shouldnt be reason for you to lose respect for them. But if it is, maybe your respect isnt of much value.

Truly understanding and mastering both is to realize both sides are one in the same. Mangus's choice is his choice, and I fully support his freedom to speak his mind rather than be muzzled by contractual obligations and set standards like so many others. Let him determine his own path and be who he is.

Its not a grudge at all. Its him calling out the fucking audacity of a company to drop its riders without any communication or slightest conscious modesty. If I were Orage's team manager, and I'm NOT, I would at least give the riders I care about enough to sponsor the inkling that shit is going sideways and its time to find a new sponsor come this winter. But that's just me, and fuck what I know about proper corporate fuck you business ethics.

I got dropped by Orage the year after winning the Young Gun Open. The year I was dropped I had started filming with PBP and competed in X Games for my first time, too. Didn’t matter. I went out and bought Grenade and Burton clothes out of spite.

However, I’m with Symms. Orage owes “free” skiing nothing. Are they assholes for telling everybody they were dropped in the Fall, yes. But, it’s their company, they can run it however they wish. Also, they are far from the only company who acts that way. I was once told by another company that I didn’t have a contract four days before Dew Tour started. Four. Also, they are far from the only company who is leaving “free” skiing, or about to leave “free” skiing.

The solution to this is not bitching to a mountaineering company that they should support “free” skiing more. They want to sell ski pants to your dad who hikes up the mountain, they do not want to support going down the hill anymore, and that is fine. Don't buy their wetsuits.

But, Magnus, Phil, whomever, use this as an opportunity to start your own company, do a better job than them, and take their market share. You get to make the products you want, support the riders you want, support the projects you want. And, who knows, Volcom, DC, Quiksilver, Burton, etc were all lil garage companies once. They were started by riders who loved their sport, and now look at them.

Don’t have the time, money, drive or passion to start your own company, but want to see “free” skiing grow? Then just take notes and vote with your dollars; Company X does not support “free” skiing, and tell your friends. Then look around at who does support it. Who supports a good team? Who supports projects you like? Who throws events you like? Buy their products….

Which companies have no team? throw no events? sponsors no projects? Which companies clearly take their money out of “free” skiing to support racing? mountaineering? snowmobiling? making better tennis rackets? snowboarding? running shoes? electric scooter importing? Don’t buy their products. (The thing you’ll soon realize is the list of companies who live and die by "free" skiing (and therefore should support it) is sadly, very, very, very, small… so, again, start your own company if you can)

I never understood how “skiing down the hill however you want to” is considered tiny, but everybody says 'free" skiing is tiny, so, what little money there is should probably stay in the hands of people who live and support freeskiing. Start your own companies and vote with your dollars, people.

Lol, conspiracy. The thing is that I don't see this as people who have been hurt conspiring to damage orages image. It's the people who have seen influential members of our community get hurt pointing out that it's clear that this brand doesn't want to appeal to our niche anymore and that they didn't step back in a very nice way.

If someone no longer supports the very small thing we have going here then the least we can do is consciously not give them our money.

Orage are lucky. If this was skateboarding the company would die. That is part of what makes skateboarding so highly regarded. The community has integrity, if you do something to offend that community then that community will make sure you never get the chance again. Skateboarding is real.

Skiing in general is so full of people willing to kiss asses and who think it's OK to separate business practices from the sport it's self. That's not OK, and that's skiing in general, not what newschoolers is here for and not what I support. Freeskiing should be real. We should be honest, we should have an opinion, the industry should work for the riders and the riders should run the media.

Thank God for Newschoolers. We'd be fucked without it.

Until you are an owner, the company you work for doesnt owe you shit. If the business decision was made at the end of summer to switch things up, is Orage supposed to just sit on that decision for an entire winter and let all their marketing fall a year behind? No, you do whats best for the company and the majority of its employees.

Really, Bud? thats awfully presumptive that you know how to have fun on two planks better than me. thats awfully presumptive that you have more fun freeskiing than me. thats awfully presumptive that you enjoy skiing more than me. It'd behoove many of you to remember that just cause someone or some company isn't super nice and giving, doesn't mean they're assholes haha. There is a large middle ground between great person and asshole... It's called normal people.

All you people complaining that Orage dropped their "newschool" side of skiing are idiots. You want Orage to support this area of skiing without you supporting Orage. Marketing works and if Magnus or B-dog or whoever actually sold products then they would still be on the team. But they didn't sell products, and that's why they got dropped. If you butt boys actually bought shit from Orage then they might have seen that their sponsorships were working and they would have kept them. Seriously, how many people actually have the Bdog jacket?

And on another note, Orage is still supporting newschool skiing. Oh so they're not sponsoring a skier who hits the street. You people do realise there's more than one aspect of newschool skiing. Big mountain, powder skiing, touring, it's all newschool skiing. They're not shifting into racing, or moguls.

So get over it, they dropped some people and picked up some people. Not like any other company has never dropped anyone ever... Maybe actually support companies you like and this won't happen instead of trend hopping on the next floral design or tight pant.


I bought B-Dog's Orage jacket. Fuck all the hypocrites.
