Speed Skiing

What skill does this require apart from huge balls? Seems like insane risks for something that doesn't showcase much athleticism.. I mean I get normal racing cuz they throw down some crazy high-g turns but this just seems like tuck and pray to me. I know I'm probably wrong and this is extremely difficult, but can someone who knows about this shit explain what technique is actually involved here?

I tend to agree, OP. But man, aside from jumping, there can't be any better feeling than straightlining at the edge of the envelope.
