So I'm going to spend the weekend with some friends that moved to Connecticut. Consideringt where they live it gets Corning in the winter they suggested we go to sundown (super small mountain) I asked about the ticket prices to get a base line and they are charging an absurd $54 for a 4 hour pass. how the hell does a mountain like that have justification ro charge an absurdly high price for a glorified half day pass?

When i used to race I had to go to sundown it's a really nice mountain. Probably the nicest in CT.

Well let me break it down for you.
$12 go to daily operations and worker wages
$10 go to lawsuits where moms sue the mountain after their 12 year old breaks his collarbone trying to hit a DFD for the first time
$5 go to the owner
And the rest goes into a big room where you can find Scrooge McDuck diving into a huge pile of coins

My little home hill charges $73 for a day pass and $20+ for rentals. Just heard that they are still struggling with finances so they shut down a lift once in a while to save money.

Running a ski hill requires major dough... Or they spend it unwisely.

Because people pay it thats why. I live in CT, but ski Vermont. When ever it snows at home and I don't feel like driving through it, Im always tempted to go to sundown and just ski what little pow we get, but I'm not paying $60 to ski that trash. It may be the best in CT, but that isn't saying much.

Dude calm the fuck down. Mountains have to make a certain amount to break even on expenses. Tickets are theyre fall back. It costs a lot more than $54 to run even 1 lift for 4 hours. Youre lucky you dont live in Vail where a day ticket is closing in on $200...ticket prices all over the east are a lot cheaper than out west so be thankful for that. Prices are only gonna go up.

I stopped buying a lift ticket when i go there, I just ski without a ticket for a few hours until they kick me out, then I go home

Due to the fact that almost every 12 year old that skis at sundown has at least one parent who's either a lawyer, or a stay at home mom who complains when their child doesn't get a participation for every action they complete, sundown gets sued more times in a season than you could possibly count

granites making BANK. they've been developing and expanding at a ridiculous pace the last 10 years. not sure where you got the idea that they're struggling.

They are shutting down lifts on busy days just to save money. I know several employees, the amount of day tickets sold this year is way below average... The late start to the season really screwed stuff up.
