Questions for a Political Science Major.

So I'm getting to the point in my life going into my senior year in HS next year where I want to have an idea of what I want to study. Government and Politics have always been two things that I'm very interested in, my school counselor has said that it is a very interesting field and I am looking for some solid insight on the opportunities post-college and the benefits of Majoring in PolySci. +K and thanks in advance

Friends of mine that had PolySci degrees got positions in their local government, or went on to attend law school, or went on to do more philosophy of law (grad school), or aimed at working at a think tank. There are definitely both practical jobs and academic jobs depending on what your specific interests in political science are.

A lot of Political Science majors also get a double major or minor in Economics as the two go hand in hand.

I did the reverse, majored in Economics and minored in Political Science. It definitely helps when it comes to understanding the larger picture of how economics and politics are intertwined.

Politics is the frat house of american business. People get elected solely on the basis of no opposition.

As most people have already said if you really want to be a politician you're probably got to go to law school or at least have some kind of economic background. That major by itself is pretty useless.

Yes. Very useless withouth grad school or law school if you want to get a job in something related.

My friend is getting a masters in foreign policy after he graduated with a PoliSci degree. You can do so much in government. Huge opportunities to work for the DoD or the CIA with foreign intelligence or international affairs.

Why would you get that degree? Unless you want to go to law school its virtually useless. Again, what I tell everyone, if you don't know what you want to do....go for an engineering,math, finance/business degree unless you are 100% CERTAIN you know what field you want to work in.

Those degrees are so much more valued than others. Even if you want to do something else not related it shows you are smart and can work hard. Also demand a higher salary potentially.
