I wonder what its like to be sponsored by company making crappy skis.

I'm sure there are people signed to contracts that really do not like the product their brand is pushing out but are stuck on it. A classic example is Salomon and Simon Dumont who didn't even ski the ski with his name on it for a couple years until he jumped ship and went over to Head. (or so I hear/saw with his blank "Target" skis)

I wonder what is like for the people who are stuck skiing on skis that are just not their preference or downright awful. It may not be the common, but I'm sure it happens; pro athletes that may be held back by their equipment.

A buddy of mine rode for line last season and dropped the sponsorship after going through 8 pairs in one season.

A friend of mine rides for Line and goes through like 6 pair a year. He doesn't like them very much. I will say Line is pretty generous to their kids they sponsor.

It is really ridiculous going through 8 pairs in one season. I don't really care what Line's reputation is, that is the skier not the company. I've been skiing on my Chronics for a while and they have held up fine for me. For a skier to break 8 pairs in one season you have to be either skiing on straight up asphalt or trying shit you shouldn't be trying in the park.

My friend goes through like 6, they all delam and the tips/tails get fucked. He's 14

i have a pair of 2013 TCs... holding up just fine. To go through 8 pairs is pretty ridiculous

Average park skier on NS goes through about a pair of park skis every year, right?

They go, on average, say 20-30 days.

Now take someone that not only does more difficult and high impact tricks, who skis a helluva lot more than that per year, say 150 days on average a season. Do the math assuming durability is the same, and yeah thats about 7-8 pairs a season. Not really surprised.

I felt so bad for the guys on Epic Planks when they had to ride those stupid skis that basically didn't have tip and tail

Tl dr.
I have a friend who is in this situation. Companies just end up losing revenue because they send athletes 5-7 pairs a season.

I had a buddy get into the porn business when he moved out to LA. Ended up getting sponsored my Trojan. He went from raw dogging to having to wear Trojan condoms for all his scenes. Hated it and ended up breaking contract obligations after a few months.

I'm not talking about just poor durability but also poor skiability. Even if you terminate a contract post-winter, could be a crappy season if you can't do what you want to do on features.

Most pros ride a ski that's tailored to there liking with the graphic of a ski that the company sells. Example 2014 atomic infamous. 2008-9 salmon suspect. Ski companies will listen to what their athletes want if they are a tier 1 skier.

My 2014 Chronics have been great for 3 years, I have no idea how people go through 8 pairs of skis.

The Minnesota effect is all too real. Hard snow, tow ropes and tons of rails don't combine with skis very well. I go through about 2 pairs of skis a season, that being said I ski elm creek and troll 2-4 times a week.

Concerning OP's question it's tough to say what it would be like, but I would assume it would be like vouching for something you hated. You wouldn't really want to associate your name with the brand and if you had too you probably wouldn't be very optimistic about it. However I don't think any athletes who don't like their gear would reply to this forum, because when it comes to free I wouldn't complain.

Keep in mind that he was consistently throwing pretty wild tricks. But i mean, he had a pair that delammed in like a week... He took care of his skis, he rode some volkls that lasted him longer than a season. It's not like he destroys every pair of skis he owns, the line skis just don't hold up...

I had two friends in college that both got some flow from Line. They both ripped super hard and beat the shit out of those skis. I have never seen a ski de-edge worst than my buddies 2014 chronics
